Board of elections meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, Ga. Any changes to the scheduled dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

4-H yard sale

The Lincoln County 4-H is having a yard sale on Sat., May 16 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Extension office, 288 N. Peachtree St. (beside the Ga. Power office). Please come by and help support your local 4-H program. We have a wide variety of items for sale.

VBS at New Work

Come deep into the Amazon Rainforest as a river runner and go on expedition with the one true God at New Work Baptist Church VBS: Jungle Jaunt from May 31 - June 5 starting at 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. If you have any questions please call 706- 359-1480.

Reunion meeting

West Side Elementary and High School class of 1972 reunion will meet at Picadilly Restaurant on Washington Rd., Augusta, at 5 p.m. on Sat., May 16. For more information, contact Allene Parks, Eva Norman, Trudy Parks or Mary Jones Norman.

Discounted tickets

Living history demo

Elijah Clark State Park will have Living History Demonstrations during the month of May. They will feature bread making - May 9; Quilting - May 16; Colonial Medicine - May 23.

These demonstrations will take place at the Log Cabin Museum area from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Garden club meeting

The Pine Needle Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. on May 11 at the Lincoln County Library. Kristi Williamson and Linda McKinney will present the program. Members are urged to come and bring a friend.

Mobile mammography

The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department May 26 and June 30.

Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information

Tuesday prayer True Fellowship invites everyone to prayer each Tuesday 10 a.m. until 12 noon. Bishop James Ware is pastor.

Community cookbook

The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce is creating a Community Cookbook. We are looking for recipes, children's artwork, and local businesses to advertise. We are looking for a minimum of 500 recipes. Please contact the chamber at 706-359-7970 to receive a submission form.

Benefit barbecue

Faith Community Church will have a barbecue plate benefit on Sat., May 16 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Proceeds from this event will go to Benji and Shannon Rentz, to help them with costs for their child adoption process. Tickets will be $7.

Fifth Sun. singing

Loco Baptist Church will have its traditional fifth Sunday singing May 31 at 6 p.m. with finger foods to follow. If interested in singing, please contact Barry Crosby at 706-401- 2063.

Pork steak barbecue

Bethany United Methodist Church will have a pork steak barbecue May 9 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Plates cost $6 per plate and may be picked up at the church. Proceeds will go towards needy projects around the church and community.

Election of officers

American Legion Post 194 will conduct nominations and election of officers for Legion year 2009 - 2010 on May 19. The election will be held at the post home at 7:30 p.m. Officer Installation will be held on July 18 and will include a dinner and dance. Post 194 Legionnaires are encouraged to attend, nominate and support your candidate for office.

GED/Adult classes

Augusta Technical College and Lincoln County Family Connection are offering GED/Adult Literacy classes on Mon. and Tues., 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Thursday: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. For more information, please call 706-359-3425 or 706-359-5769.

Breakfast May 16

Start the morning off right with a hearty breakfast. Pleasant Grove C.M.E. Church will have a breakfast plate sale Sat., May 16 at 8 a.m. The yard sale will begin at 9 a.m. with all sorts of items, followed by a hot, delicious fish dinner plate sale at 10 a.m.

Revival services

First Baptist Church will have Revival Services May 18 - 21 at 7:30 p.m. nightly. Monday night will be Minister Daravious Cullars; Tues. - Thurs. will be Rev. Ray Pilgrim. The public is invited.

Breakfast for ladies

The men of Newberry Missionary Baptist Church will prepare breakfast for the ladies on Mother's Day, May 10. Breakfast will be served promptly at 8 a.m. Worship service will follow at 10 a.m. Rev. Willie J. White is pastor.

First Baptist Church Deaconess will 7-Up Service

Church anniversary The 136th anniversary of Newberry Missionary Baptist Church will be held Sun., May 17 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Norris Rouse, pastor of Cumming Grove Baptist Church will be guest minister. Rev. Willie J. White is pastor.

Memorial Day ceremony

Memorial Day ceremonies will be conducted at the Lincoln County Courthouse on May 25 starting at 11 a.m. Following the ceremony, lunch will be prepared and served by American Legion Post 194. Honor your veterans and fallen heroes.

Baseball clinic

A baseball clinic will be held at the Lincoln County Recreation Department June 1-3 from 9 a.m. - 12 noon for upcoming 3rd - 8th graders. Cost is $30 per child.

Community festival

Faith Tabernacle's Community Festival will be held Sat., May 23 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. This is a free public outreach event for all ages and ethnicity, with activities designed to engage, excite and encourage members of the community. There will be face painting, pony rides, volleyball, Bible trivia, talent performances, gospel karaoke, etc. Concessions will be sold.

Auxiliary to meet

The Ladies Auxiliary Unit 194 will hold its monthly meeting Thurs., May 14, 7:30 p.m. at the post home. Elections will be held at this meeting. All members are encouraged to attend. Please remember to bring your peanut butter, jelly and syrup for the food pantry.

Dance at Post 194

The American Legion Post 194 will have a dance Sat., May 16 from 9 p.m. - 1 a.m. Live entertainment will be provided by Highway 104. Come out and dance along to your favorite county, rock, blues and oldies tunes.

Senior ad payment due

Current juniors (rising seniors) are reminded that senior ads for the 2010 yearbook must be paid for by Friday, May 15th. Pictures and text are not due, but ads must be paid for by Friday, May 15th. Ads are $80 for a halfpage and $150 for a whole page.
