Board of elections meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, Ga. Any changes to the scheduled dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

Benefit yard sale

A benefit yard sale will be held Sat., May 2, 8 a.m. until at Broad River Realty, 286 S. Peachtree St., Lincolnton, to raise money for Jessica Rickerson to go on her first mission trip to Zambia, Africa to help build a Christian college.

Breakfast buffet

Come and join the Faith Community Church for its breakfast buffet which returns for one time only, Sat., May 2 from 7 - 10 a.m. All proceeds will go to the church music department.

Book sale at library

The Lincoln County Public Library will hold its bi-annual book sale starting April 29 through May 2nd. All proceeds will benefit programs sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

We have a wide selection of books from antiques to today's best sellers. Come one, come all and support your local library.

Discounted tickets

Discounted Six Flags tickets are available at the Lincoln County Extension Office, 288 N. Peachtree Street (beside Ga Power). 4-H has one date tickets available for $28.00, the gate price is $42.39. For more information call (706-359-3233) or come by. Help support 4-H in Lincoln County.

Living history demo

Elijah Clark State Park will have Living History Demonstrations during the month of May. They will feature bread making - May 2; 18th Century Children's Toys - May 9; Quilting - May 16; Colonial Medicine - May 23.

These demonstrations will take place at the Log Cabin Museum area from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Mobile mammography

The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department May 26 and June 30.

Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information

Tuesday prayer

True Fellowship invites everyone to prayer each Tuesday 10 a.m. until 12 noon. Bishop James Ware is pastor.

Tutoring available

Peer tutoring is available after school on Mon., Tues., and Thurs. Interested students should contact Regina Reed at 706-359-3121. Teachers are also available before and after school to assist students in different academic subjects.

Community cookbook

The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce is creating a Community Cookbook. We are looking for recipes, children's artwork, and local businesses to advertise. We are looking for a minimum of 500 recipes. Please contact the chamber at 706-359-7970 to receive a submission form.

Benefit barbecue

Faith Community Church will have a barbecue plate benefit on Sat., May 16 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Proceeds from this event will go to Benji and Shannon Rentz, to help them with costs for their child adoption process. Tickets will be $7.

LCFA to meet

Lincoln County Firefighters Association will meet at April 30, 7 p.m. at Beulah VFD. All members are encouraged to attend. Dues are due at this meeting.

Fifth Sun. singing

Loco Baptist Church will have its traditional fifth Sunday singing May 31 at 6 p.m. with finger foods to follow. If interested in singing, please contact Barry Crosby at 706-401- 2063.

Pork steak barbecue

Bethany United Methodist Church will have a pork steak barbecue May 9 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Plates cost $6 per plate and may be picked up at the church. Proceeds will go towards needy projects around the church and community.

Barbecue plate sale

New Life Church of God will have a barbecue plate sale on Saturday, May 2. Pickup at 11 a.m.

Democrats to meet

The Lincoln County Democratic Party will meet Mon., May 4 at the Lincoln County Public Library. Attorney John Clark, Elberton, Ga. will be the guest speaker.

Election of officers

American Legion Post 194 will conduct nominations and election of officers for Legion year 2009 - 2010 on May 19. The election will be held at the post home at 7:30 p.m. Officer Installation will be held on July 18 and will include a dinner and dance. Post 194 Legionnaires are encouraged to attend, nominate and support your candidate for office.

GED/Adult classes

Augusta Technical College and Lincoln County Family Connection are offering GED/Adult Literacy classes on Mon. and Tues., 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Thursday: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. For more information, please call 706-359-3425 or 706-359-5769.

Revival services

First Baptist Church will have Revival Services May 18 - 21 at 7:30 p.m. nightly. Monday night will be Minister Daravious Cullars; Tues. - Thurs. will be Rev. Ray Pilgrim. The public is invited.

Minister Daravious Cullars will be preaching Mid-Week Service at First Baptist Church May 5 at 7 p.m. The public is invited.

Breakfast for ladies

The men of Newberry Missionary Baptist Church will prepare breakfast for the ladies on Mother's Day, May 10. Breakfast will be served promptly at 8 a.m. Worship service will follow at 10 a.m.

7-Up Service

Rev. Willie J. White is pastor. First Baptist Church Deaconess will have a 7-Up Service May 31 at 2 p.m. with different speakers. The public is invited.

Southern Gospel Night

The Lincoln County Arts Council and the Lincoln-Lincolnton Chamber of Commerce invites the community to the 15th annual Southern Gospel Night, 7 p.m., April 29 at Elijah Clark State Park. Local choirs, soloists, and groups will perform with Little Roy and Lizzie Long as emcee.

Door prizes will be awarded throughout the evening compliments of generous local merchants and businesses. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy a free night of music!

Church anniversary

The 136th anniversary of Newberry Missionary Baptist Church will be held Sun., May 17 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Norris Rouse, pastor of Cumming Grove Baptist Church will be guest minister. Rev. Willie J. White is pastor.

Gospel festival

Sandy Oaks Gospel Festival featuring Leon Everette and Country Cross Band will be held at the Lazy 'J' Arena, 10 miles west of Edgefield, S.C. on Hwy. 23, May 9 at 5 p.m. Gates open at 2 p.m. Cost will be $10 for adults, $5 for children 6 - 11. Free weight loss prog.

Lincolnton Church of Christ, 1832 Highway 220 W, will be sponsoring a free weight loss and nutrition program conducted by Dr. Daryl Wiley each Wednesday evening from 6:45 - 7:30. Anyone who would like to live a healthier life, but cannot afford commercial weight loss programs is invited. Bingo is played at the American Legion

Basketball camp

Final applications are now being evaluated for the invitation only Ten Star All Star Summer Basketball Camp for boys and girls ages 10 - 19. Clark Hill Outdoor Expo will be held Sat., May 30 at the American Legion Fair Grounds, Lincolnton. We are looking for local talent in arts and crafts or food vendors. Bingo is Friday

Post 194, Lincolnton, Georgia, every Friday at 7:30 p.m. A snack bar is operated by the Ladies Auxiliary available during bingo. For more information, contact (706) 359-3445.

Shoe boxes needed

Huddle House is collecting empty shoe boxes for its Mother's Day shoe box distribution.

Shoe boxes are filled with items and delivered to nursing homes and shutin mothers in Lincoln County.

Please drop off an empty shoe box and/or $15.00 to the Huddle House and bring a smile to someones face on Mother's Day.

Church anniversary 

Rev. Ray C. Lewis and Tabernacle Baptist Church, Hwy. 220, will observe its church anniversary May 10 at 2 p.m. Rev. Dunston Phillips and Friendship Baptist Church of Appling, Ga., will be the special guests. Everyone is invited.

Upcoming reunion 

Navy and Marine Corps shipmates who served on the USS Columbus CA-74/CG-12 from 1944 through 1976 and the USS Columbus (SSN- 762) past and present, if you would like to share memories and camaraderie with old friends and make new ones, you are encouraged to attend the upcoming reunion. Baseball clinic

A baseball clinic will be held at the Lincoln County Recreation Department June 1-3 from 9 a.m. - 12 noon for upcoming 3rd - 8th graders. Cost is $30 per child.

Solomon Pool Deliverance Ministries, Lincolnton, will have pastor appreciation May 3, 3 p.m. at The Lincoln Center. Guest speaker will be Minister Bruce Turner of First Assembly. The public is invited. Rev. Peggy W. Zellars is pastor.

Dinner at Post 194 

Dinner served at American Legion Post 194 every Wed. night at 6:30 p.m. and Fri. at 7 p.m. Wednesday's menu changes weekly. Every Friday is steak night. A large variety salad bar, shrimp cocktail, baked potato, bread, dessert and ice tea are included with steak. Come out and join us for a delicious meal.

Memorial Day ceremony

Memorial Day ceremonies will be conducted at the Lincoln County Courthouse on May 25 starting at 11 a.m. Following the ceremony, lunch will be prepared and served by American Legion Post 194. Honor your veterans and fallen heroes.

Fireproof showing 

First Assembly of God will be showing the movie "Fireproof" on Wed., May 6 beginning at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. Everyone in the community is invited to come and watch this inspirational movie.

Final pancake days

The All-U-Can-Eat pancake special benefiting Relay for Life, at Huddle House, will end Thurs., April 30. If you haven't gotten your pancakes yet or need one more plate, you'd better make it quick!

Lincoln County Convenience Center is now available Mon., Thurs. - Sat., operating hours are 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
