Ficklen Guin to mark 50 years in the ministry

Friends of Rev. Ficklen Guin are invited to join him Sunday, April 5, at Fishing Creek Baptist Church as he marks 50 years in the ministry.

The celebration is being hosted jointly by Fishing Creek Baptist Church and its pastor, Rev. Roy Cates, and Danburg Baptist Church where Rev. Guin has served as pastor for the past 20 years.

The music and testimonials will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by dinner in the fellowship hall.

Rev. Guin is the son of Martha Belle Hinton Guin and the late Boyce Guin. He grew up in Fishing Creek Baptist Church and was ordained to the ministry there on the first Sunday of April 1959. He and his wife, Maudine Crook Guin, were newlyweds at the time. He has pastored seven churches, including Loco, Greenwood, Salem, Friendship, Double Branches, Pine Grove and Danburg.

Rev. and Mrs. Guin have four children, Sherry (Mrs. Richard DuBois), Kevin, Ashley (Mrs. Andy Henderson), and Christopher, and are now grandparents of eight-month-old Alex Henderson.

Rev. Guin never speaks of his work for the Lord without praising his wife as his equal partner. He will tell you that the two of them had a lot to learn that first year when he was pastoring Loco, Greenwood and Salem simul- taneously. He credits the guidance of God's Holy Spirit, the family's faith in Jesus Christ, and the love, support and prayers of many fine people for sustaining them and helping their ministry to grow through the years.

Rev. Guin says that the past 50 years have been some wonderful times. He and Maudine have had opportunities to make many friends while serving in the name of the Lord Jesus by preaching, teaching, baptizing, marrying those who fell in love, and burying those who went home to be with the Lord. He says, "Words cannot express what joy and pleasure all of this has been for us."

Rev. and Mrs. Guin expressed appreciation to everyone for all they have done for them and for their family over the years. They extend an invitation to all who would like to come and celebrate this wonderful occasion with their family and friends.
