Citizens should stand by our county
TO THE EDITOR
The Lincoln County voters elected a few new government officials on November 5, 2008. Evidently the voters wanted a change in county government. The new chairman and commissioners inherited a dire economy. In trying to balance the budget they are being ostracized by some of the public.
Do these people feel we should stay status quo? If so, I guess they wouldn't mind if their taxes were raised as in the past, as that would seem to be the alternative. The chairman was asked to donate part of his salary back to the county, which he had already done, but I have yet to see that anyone else has offered to do the same, even those that have spoken against him.
Maybe the school board should take a lesson from the commissioners and tighten the school budget to save some taxpayers money.
I feel the commissioners had to make some tough decisions that were necessary in these bad economical times. They will not be able to please everybody but these were essential to stabilize the economy of the county.
As they are our elected officials of Lincoln County, I hope the citizens will stand by them as they try to get the county through these hard times.
