BOE needs to look at spending

TO THE EDITOR

In last week's Lincoln Journal, I was reading the article about the Board of Education and I thought I was reading a story out of the Wallstreet Journal. Ten thousand dollars for five laptop computers so that educated people, teachers, could check them out to use at home. I would hope that anyone teaching our children would already have a computer at home that they could transfer their work to.

Secondly and most importantly, $10,000 for five computers! This isn't City Bank or Bank of America with a billion dollar bailout. Fully loaded laptops are available at Walmart for $500 each. That would buy 20 laptops not five. The most expensive Dell laptop available, a 1525, is $919 on Dell's website.

The people living in Lincoln County deserve better. Our taxes are some of the highest in the state of counties with our population. The county commissioners are cutting expenses everywhere, even furloughing many employees. The board of education needs to take a real serious look at their spending or we need to take a real serious look at our board of education members.
