Board of elections meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, Ga. Any changes to the scheduled dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

Spaghetti supper

Lincolnton United Methodist Church is sponsoring a spaghetti supper to benefit Eddie and Amy Roberts on Fri., March 20 in the fellowship hall from 4:30 - 7 p.m. Dinners will be $6 per plate and will be available for dining in or take out.

Dinner at Post 194 Effective Feb. 1, the Lincoln Dinner served at American Legion Post 194 every Wed. night at 6:30 p.m. and Fri. at 7 p.m. Wednesday's menu changes weekly. Every Friday is steak night. A large variety salad bar, shrimp cocktail, baked potato, bread, dessert and ice tea are included with steak. Come out and join us for a delicious meal.

Lamkin to speak

Mid-week worship service will be held at First Baptist Church Tues., March 3 at 7 p.m. Guest speaker will be Evangelist Deborah Lamkin. Rev. Dennis Quinn is pastor.

Bingo is Friday

Bingo is played at the American Legion Post 194, Lincolnton, Georgia, every Friday at 7:30 p.m. A snack bar is operated by the Ladies Auxiliary available during bingo. For more information, contact (706) 359-3445.

Closed Mondays

County Health Dept. will be closed the first four Mondays of every month. Employees are being furloughed four days a month due to state budget cuts.

Golf tourney

East Georgia Classic Golf Tournament to benefit Relay for Life, sponsored by The Citizens of Georgia Power, will be held March 30, 2009, 12:30 p.m. at Gordon Lakes, Ft. Gordon, Ga. Contact: Jeff Butterworth 706-650-5215

Little League

Lincolnton-Lincoln County Little League is starting registration for Tball, coach pitch, minor league, major league, and junior league baseball for ages 5 - 14 and girls softball for ages 9 - 12 and 13 - 16. The registration fee is $35.00 and you can register at Farmers & Merchants Bank, Goldman & Wengrow, Lincoln County Water Department, or Cliatt Crossing. Mass meeting

The Lincoln County Republican Party will convene a precinct mass meeting on March 14, 9 a.m. at the library annex to elect delegates and alternate delegates to the Lincoln County Republican Party Convention. The County Convention will convene at 10 a.m., library annex, to elect delegates and alternate delegates to the Congressional District Convention and State Convention.

Pastor anniversary

St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church will have its Pastor Anniversary Program at 2 p.m. on March 22 at The Lincoln Center. Rev. F.D. Favors and Springfield Baptist Church of Thomson, Ga. will be in charge of the service.

Ladies Bible study

First Assembly of God will offer a ladies bible study beginning Mon. evening, March 2 at 6:30 p.m. This is the newest bible study by Beth Moore entitled "Esther: It's Tough Being a Woman." Pastor anniversary

Rev. Robert Crawford will be honored for 17 years of service at a pastor anniversary program March 8 at 11:45 a.m. Heard Chapel Baptist Church and Rev. Hull will be in charge. Everyone is invited.

The Deacons and Trustees of New Tabernacle Baptist Church will celebrate their anniversary on Sunday, March 1, at 3:00 p.m.

The Gus Leverett Family Reunion will have a fish plate sale March 7 at the home of Carrie Parker starting at 11 a.m.

Prayer brunch

The Women on the Move for Christ of the Saint Luke Baptist Church, 3130 Metasville Road, Lincolnton, Georgia, will hold its 10th Annual Fellowship Prayer Brunch. Minister Bertha Mota of Ross Grove Baptist Church of Augusta, Georgia will be the guest minister.

Martin Crossroads Church Relay for Life team is sponsoring a spaghetti lunch on Fri., Feb. 27. Deliveries will be made to businesses in Lincolnton, all others may pick up at Cullars Inn or church fellowship hall. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children under 10 years of age. NAACP banquet

The Lincoln County Chapter of the NAACP Annual Banquet will be held on Sat., Feb. 28, 7 p.m. at The Lincoln Center. Guest speaker will be Ms. Kimberly Scott, news anchor for WJBF - Channel 6 in Augusta.

Parent sessions

The local Child Care Resource & Referral Agency (CCR&R) will host three information sessions for parents interested in learning more about Georgia's lottery funded Pre-K program. The sessions will be held at the MCG CCR&R agency located at 1054 Claussen Rd., Suite 307 in Augusta, Feb. 24, 10-11 a.m. and 1-2 p.m. and March 7, 1-2 p.m.

Parents will learn about eligibility and registration requirements, Pre-K standards, activities, and how to choose best location for child. Parents with a special needs child will be able to meet with an Inclusion Coordinator to receive information on available services.

Mobile mammography

The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department March 24 and April 28.

Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information

Three night revival

Pleasant Grove C.M.E. Church will have a three night revival March 4-6 at 7 p.m. nightly. Guest speakers will be, Wed. - Rev. Willie White and Newberry Church family; Thurs. - Rev. Charles Henderson and New Saints Church family; and Fri. - Rev. Willie Wiley and Mt. Aldred Church family.

Pleasant Grove will have a Dedication Program on Sun., March 8 at 3 p.m. Rev. Gregory Fuller and Macedonian Baptist Church will be in charge of the service.

Turkey shoot

Free weight loss prog.

Lincolnton Church of Christ, 1832 Highway 220 W, will be sponsoring a free weight loss and nutrition program conducted by Dr. Daryl Wiley each Wednesday evening from 6:45 - 7:30. Anyone who would like to live a healthier life, but cannot afford commercial weight loss programs is invited.

Flu vaccine avail

Flu vaccine is now available at the Lincoln County Health Dept. Mon. - Fri., 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. The charge is $25 cash, Medicare Part B or Medicaid. If you will be using your Medicare or Medicaid card for your method of payment and you have a primary insurance plan, please be prepared to present both cards.

Food distribution

The CSRA Economic Opportunity Authority, Inc. will do a mass food distribution in Lincoln County on Fri., March 6 at the Lincoln Senior Center, 160 May Avenue, from 9:30 a.m. until all food is gone. This mass food distribution will be for low-income and elderly persons, serving a total of 100 families in Lincoln County, and will provide fruits, vegetables, canned meats, and juices. Each family will be provided one bag of food. This is a first-come first-served event. Persons wishing to receive food must bring a picture ID, and know their household size (number living in home) and the monthly income for the family. Quilt fundraiser

Pre-K registration

The Lincoln County Georgia Pre- K Program will begin registration for 2009-2010 school year on Wednesday, March 18 at the Lincoln County Board of Education Office, 423 Metasville Road, beginning at 8 a.m. The Pre-K Program is for children who turn four years of age on or before September 1, 2009.

Spaces are limited and entrance is first come, first served. Children are not required to attend registration.

Parents must provide required documentation to register on March 18th.

Baby contest

Pleasant Grove C.M.E. Church will have a baby contest on Sat., March 7 at 6 p.m.

Free tax help

Free tax help is available for taxpayers with low and middle income, with special attention to those age 60 and older, at Euchee Creek Library, 5907 Euchee Creek Dr., Grovetown, Ga., 706-556-0594, each Monday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. through April 13th.

Tutoring available

Peer tutoring is available after school on Mon., Tues., and Thurs. Interested students should contact Regina Reed at 706-359-3121. Teachers are also available before and after school to assist students in different academic subjects.

Senior appreciation day Senior Citizens Appreciation Day will be held at Newberry Missionary Baptist Church on Sun., March 1 at 10:15 a.m. during regular worship services. Rev. Willie J. White is pastor.

Team Impact revival

Essay contest

The Lincoln County Republican Party will once again award a scholarship to a college bound Lincoln County High School senior in Congressman Norwood's honor.

The merit scholarship will be awarded based on an essay prepared by applicants. The essays will be judged anonymously with the high school guidance office retaining the applicants names.

The topic for this year's essay is " Should Lincoln County give senior citizens a school tax break and should Lincoln County implement a property tax assessment freeze as allowed by Georgia law?" Essays are due on March 3, 2009. Lincoln County seniors are urged to contact Ms. Ellen Butler for further details.

This year's scholarship will be for $500.00 and plans are to increase this award. A golf tournament is in the planning stages for June at Golf de L (Rocky Branch). The shotgun start tournament and lunch will be limited to 25 teams with a larger group for lunch. Details will be published in The Journal. Power wheelchairs

The Senior Wheels USA Program makes available power wheelchairs to senior citizens and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify.

The power wheelchairs are provided to those who can no longer walk safely, nor self-propel a manual wheelchair, and who meet the additional guidelines of the program.

Volunteers needed The American Cancer Society is currently seeking volunteers for the Reach to Recovery program in Lincolnton. The program provides information and support for women facing breast cancer through someone who has already been there.

Reach volunteers will be certified Sat., March 7 at the American Cancer Society located in Augusta from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sat., March 28 at McDuffie Regional Medical Center from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

If you are one year post surgery breast cancer survivor and no longer taking treatment, please call Summer Garrison at 706-731-9900 or 1-866- 227-0904 to become a Reach volunteer.

Revival services

Martin's Crossroads C.H. Church will be in revival March 1 - 4 with Rev. Ronnie Surrency from Green Cove Springs, Fla. Sunday night service will begin at 6 p.m. and Mon. - Wed. night, services will begin at 7 p.m. Make plans to come and join us for revival.

A chili and soup supper will be served on Wed., March 4 at 6 p.m. before the service.
