Brown to present program at Round Table meeting Jan. 26

Mr. Dan Brown, Curator at the Signal Corp Museum at Fort Gordon, will present a program on Civil War artillery to the Washington Civil War Round Table on Monday evening, January 26, at 6:00 p.m., at The Jockey Clubrestaurant on The Square in Washington, GA.

Claibourne Darden, Round Table President, says that the public is invited and welcomed. The cost of the meeting is $10 per person and includes a very nice dinner. Artillery was a most critical element of every significant engagement in the Civil War. Its officers and men were some of the best educated and elite men in the Army. Mr. Brown will discuss these valiant men and their actions, with particular emphasis on Brig. Gen. Porter Alexander (CSA), a native of Washington, GA. Brig. Gen. Porter Alexander was Chief of Artillery for Lt. Gen. James Longstreet's (CSA) I Corp of the Army of Northern Virginia. Mr. Brown puts on a splendid and exciting presentation that anyone interested in the Civil War would regret missing.

Mr. Brown has a degree in history from Armstrong State and a degree in divinity from Suwanee University. He has worked for the National Park Service at the Civil War sites of Fort Pulaski, GA; Kennesaw Mountain, GA; Stones River, TN and Cumberland Gap, TN in the roll of historian. In addition, he developed the Black Powder Safety Standards that the National Park Service uses for its firing demonstrations.

Membership in the Washington Civil War Round Table is open to everyone and new members can join at the meeting.
