Proud of county services

TO THE EDITOR

I am an NLF (not from Lincolnton), although I have been living here for fifteen years. During this time I have seen nothing but progress from the county commissioners. For example, the county water, building code enforcement and the garbage pickup are just a few.

I would like to give a special thanks to the EMTs. On two different occasions during the year, they were called to transport me to University Hospital. I could not have asked for any better service and care. Lincoln County should be proud to have this kind of service.

The county has elected several new commissioners and a new chairman. During the campaign there were several items promised such as a tax freeze and limiting school taxes on senior citizens. I have one question, if this happens, the county only has two choices, either increase taxes on other property owners or reduce services. If you look at your property tax bill, you will see that the largest percentage is school taxes. Your county commissioners only set that portion of your taxes that is listed as county. They did an excellent job.

I have talked to homeowners that were under the impression that the commissioners set all the taxes. You need to be talking to the school board.

We have elected a new chairman and commissioners, you need to give them time and support their effort. If they fail to live up to their promises, you should remind them.

I wish everyone a happy new year.
