Free flu vaccine offered to LCMS/HS students

Did you know that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now recommends that all children 6 months to 18 years get vaccinated against the flu each year?

While many young children get the flu vaccine with their other shots, middle and high school students are much less likely to be vaccinated.

Vaccinating students is very important. Adolescents normally do not get as sick as the elderly from the flu. However, school children frequently are the ones who spread the flu. Often when there is a flu outbreak students start missing school before their parents get sick and have to miss work!

To help address this problem Emory University is working with the local Health Department, Dr. Mason- Woodard and Williams to provide free flu vaccine to adolescents enrolled in the Lincoln County Middle and High Schools. To receive the free vaccine parents just need to fill out a consent form which can be obtained from the health department, library, Dr. Mason-Woodard or Dr. Williams. All that is required is for the adolescent to be enrolled in middle or high school in Lincoln County.

There is no waiting period and no fees. Families can complete the forms at the health department or at Dr. Mason-Woodard or Dr. Williams and receive the vaccine at the same time. There is a limited supply of vaccine so it will be first come first served.
