Cryders greeted by family and friends at Jip's Sit-A-Spell

GLENN AND MAE BELL SCOTT CRYDER
Lincoln County holds a very special place in the hearts of many former residents and their families.

Mae Bell Scott Cryder, now 98, daughter of John Haynes Scott and Ruth Irene Wright Scott was raised in the Midway community and attended Midway School. After graduation she moved to Elberton where she met and married Glenn Cryder. The couple had four children, Haynes, Joyce, and twins, Jerry and Terry.

A simple request by Haynes Cryder to visit a few of his childhood friends and family, mushroomed into a gathering of about 30.

Mae Belle began calling a few of the friends he played with back in the late 40's and 50's on these visits to his grandparent's house across the road from Midway Methodist Church. The list soon grew to include his aunts and cousins and before she knew it the group had outgrown any local restaurant so Marie Smalley generously offered Jip's Sit- A-Spell.

Just before noon on Monday morning, June 30, Jip's was quickly filled with friends and family, all reminiscing about the 'good ole days' and catching up on current events. Some only stopped in to say hello while others visited until mid-afternoon but a wonderful time was had by all. Adding to the enjoyment was a delicious southern meal complete with fried chicken, fresh vegetables, salads, casseroles, desserts and sweet tea.

Among those attending were: Mae Belle S. Cryder of Elberton, and son, Haynes Cryder of Conyers, her sisters, Jenida S. McGill of Evans and Olivia S. Smalley of Lincolnton. Also from Lincolnton, Beth D. Reed, Hawes Reed, Kimberly Reed, Anne Remsen, Murray Remsen , Marcy Remsen, Katie Remsen, Addie Sue Talbert, Lelia Kelly, Marie Smalley, Myrtle S. Flint, Mickie F. McGee, Deborah and Charles Beggs, Chuck and Leigh Beggs, Catherine Drew Beggs, Judson Beggs, Tommie and Darrell Henderson, Lavina and Buddy Marlow, Lessie Mae Young and Rachel Dallis. Al Florence and Juanita F. Norman of Elberton, Pat McGil of Thomson, Nancy and W. C. Turner of Augusta, Linda W. Anthony and Wilma Bunch of Washington.
