Rev. and Mrs. Boyce Ficklen Guin Jr. were honored on the occasion of their 50th Wedding Anniversary at a reception Sunday afternoon, June 8, in the fellowship hall of Danburg Baptist Church. The happy occasion was hosted by their children, Mr. and Mrs. Richard S. DuBois of Danburg, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Henderson of Peoria, Ill., and Chris Guin of Lincolnton.
Rev. Guin and Mrs. Guin, the former Maudine Crook of Lincoln County, were married June 28, l958, by Rev. Charles Herring at the Herring home.
For the reception Mrs. Guin chose a three-piece ensemble that included a floral skirt topped with a complementing golden yellow shell and green jacket. She was presented a corsage of porcelina spray roses accented with gold trim. Mr. Guin was presented a matching boutonniere for the lapel of his dark suit.
Mrs. Johnny Wolfe of Danburg tended the guest register at a table covered in white and decorated with a photo of Rev. and Mrs. Guin and a budvase of porcelina spray roses, blue iris and delphinium, white Monte Casino, sprigs of Boston fern, springeri fern, Virginia roses, and cream stock.
Tables were covered in floorlength white cloths overlaid in brown sparkle organza. Centering the table was a silver trumpet vase of Virginia and porcelina spray roses, blue delphinium and iris, white Monte Casino, Boston fern, trailing springeri fern and cream stock. Silver and crystal appointments were used in serving ham, turkey and roast beef with rolls, chicken salad in timbales, meatballs, fresh vegetables, cheese straws, brownies, spinach dip and chips, summer pasta salad, mints, nuts, fresh fruits, tea and lemonade.
The anniversary cake, a threetiered white confection with gold accents, was decorated with fresh white roses and placed over a lighted fountain. Assisting in serving was Yvonne Albea of Washington.
Tables for the guests featured 8x10 pictures of the couples throughout their 50 years in addition to white candles in crystal votives nested in springeri fern.
As guests greeted the anniversary couple, enjoyed the fellowship of friends and delicious refreshments, they also watched a power point presentation, created by their daughter, Mrs. Henderson, of the Guins and their family through many years.
The couple was presented a Gorham Lady Anne crystal pedestal centerpiece bowl and tray with matching candlesticks from Danburg Baptist Church. Rev. Guin will mark his 20th year as pastor at Danburg Baptist in December.
A large number of family and friends attended with a very special guest being Rev. Guin's 93- year-old mother, Mrs. Martha Bell Hinton Guin. In addition to guests from Wilkes and Lincoln counties, out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Denny Hinton of McDonough; Mrs. Phillip Huff of Athens; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hoffman and Mr. and Mrs. Roddie Guin of Little River, S.C.; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Pallas of Hull; Michelle Fernandes of Peoria, Ill.; and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Peterson of Augusta.
