MCG hosts Exploring MS Multiple sclerosis is a disease that affects the brain, nerves, and spinal cord of approximately 350,000 Americans in their twenties and thirties. Some individuals may be mildly affected while others lose their ability to write, speak, or walk. Although there is no known cure for MS at this time, much can be done to make life easier for those living with MS. Learn more as the Augusta Multiple Sclerosis Center at MCGHealth hosts "Exploring MS" on Saturday, July 12, 2008, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fort Discovery, One Seventh St., downtown Augusta. This free event allows children and adults to experience what it's like to have MS through talks, activities, discussions, and more. Speakers include Dr. Mary Hughes, Medical Director of the Augusta MS Center at MCGHealth; Barbara Burk, physician assistant at the Augusta MS Center at MCGHealth; and Dr. Laura Stepleman, a psychologist in the MCGHealth Psychiatry and Health Behavior department. Free admission and a complimentary boxed lunch are provided by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals. Attendees are also invited to remain and explore Fort Discovery's other interactive exhibits during the afternoon at no charge. Space is limited.
