Community Calendar Board of elections meetings The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, Ga. Any changes to the scheduled dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted. Dinner served Dinner served at American Legion Post 194 every Wed. night at 6:30 p.m. and Fri. at 7 p.m. Wednesday's menu changes weekly. Every Friday is steak night. A large variety salad bar, shrimp cocktail, baked potato, bread, dessert and ice tea are included with steak. Come out and join us for a delicious meal. Trio to perform The Dewain French Trio of Grovetown, Ga. will be performing at St. Paul United Methodist Church at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 29. A love offering will be taken. Volunteer meeting Lincoln County Department of Public Safety will have a volunteer's meeting, Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Office of Emergency Services Headquarters located at 160 School Street. All Public Safety volunteers are urged to attend. Consignors wanted Lincolnton United Methodist Church is seeking consignors for its first annual Fall Kids Pass it On Consignment Sale to be held at the church on September 5th - 6th. Consignors receive 60% of the amount sold while the church receives 40% to go back into local missions. Time change The called meeting to consider adoption of the tentative 2008/2009 budget resolution for the Lincoln County Development Authority has been changed from Thursday, June 26, 2008 at 5 p.m. to Thursday, June 26, 2008 at 10 a.m. The meeting will be held in the conference room of the welcome center at 112 North Washington Street. Meeting at Post 597 The regular monthly meetings of the Ladies Auxiliary and Legionnaires of Thomas-Lane Post 597 will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. All members of both organizations are encouraged to be present. All auxiliary members are asked to come prepared to renew their membership for next year. The yearly membership fee is $15. New members are invited to attend. Info. needed Archivists are seeking officers, enlisted men, WACs, cadets, britons, civilians and/or their families and friends who are stationed at Cochran Field, or lived in Macon, Georgia during WWII, who would be willing to contribute artifacts, photos, articles, and stories pertaining to their experience with the men and women working there. Looking for recipes The Lincoln County Historical Society is in the process of compiling a cookbook that will showcase all of the wonderful recipes that Lincoln County people love to prepare. We want this cookbook to not only include recipes but the history of Lincoln County as well. If you have any historical facts or human interest stories that reflect the history of Lincolnton, please submit them to us by July 10th along with your favorite recipes. Submit as many as you like and make sure you put your name on each entry. You may send your stories or recipes to the Lincoln County Historical Society at P.O. Box 869 or place them in a drop box that will be located on the front porch at the May House until July 10th. We want this cookbook to be one of your favorites as well as your very own reference on some of the history of Lincoln County. Your participation with this is greatly appreciated. Softball camp All upcoming fourth-eighth graders are invited to attend Lincoln County Softball Camp on July 18 and 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the LC Recreation Department. The cost is $35 per person and it includes a camp t-shirt. Pick up a registration form from the LC Recreation Department, Coach Mallory Thigpen, or Coach David Fernandes. Registration forms may be turned in to the LC Recreation Department (preferred) or bring it with you the day of camp. TIA Helping Hand The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/ 50. All donations are welcome, we will pick up. Your donations are appreciated. Planning meetings The Lincoln County Planning Commission will hold all its regularly scheduled meetings in the Planning and Zoning Conference Room located at 107 Perryman Avenue unless otherwise advertised. Fund set up A fund has been established at Farmers State Bank to aid the Beggs family. The funds collected will help defray medical expenses associated with the cancer treatment and meet the needs of the Beggs family. Fireworks June 27 The 13th Annual Fireworks over Lake Russell sponsored by the Elbert County Board of Commissioners will take place from 6 to 9pm on Friday, June 27, 2008 at Richard B. DDS closed July 4 The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) will be closed for Independence Day on Friday, July 4th. Customer Service Centers (CSCs) statewide will be open to serve customers on Saturday, July 5th, and will be closed on Monday, July 7th, as is standard practice statewide. The days following a holiday closing are typically very busy days, so please plan ahead. DDS reminds customers that many services such as initiating a change of address or replacing a lost license can be conducted online even when our offices are closed.
