Community Calendar Auxiliary to meet The Ladies Auxiliary Unit 194 will have their monthly meeting Thursday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post 194. All members are encouraged to attend and new members are welcome. Please remember to bring the following items for the Food Pantry: canned tomatoes and vegetables. Fishing tournament A fishing tournament will be held Saturday, June 14 at the Cox Farm for boys and girls up to age 16. It will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 12 noon. Children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Prizes will be awarded and lunch will be served. Call Leon Cox at (706) 359-1802 for directions. Dinner served Dinner served at American Legion Post 194 every Wed. night at 6:30 p.m. and Fri. at 7 p.m. Wednesday's menu changes weekly. Every Friday is steak night. Family reunion The Lang-Cantelou family reunion is set for Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 12:00 noon. It will be held at the Lincoln County Historical Park, Lewis Family Pavilion. Bring your family, news, a picnic lunch and good cheer! Drinks, plates and utensils will be provided. Come blast off and explore Cosmic City at St. Paul UMC Vacation Bible School, Tues., June 3, through Fri., June 6. Board of elections meetings The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, Ga. Any changes to the scheduled dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted. Grandkids Day Grandkids Day at the Lincoln County Historical Park will be June 18 at 11 am. A hot dog lunch, ice cream and more games than last year are planned. Members, membership renewals and prospective members are invited. Last year was a good time for kids of all ages and this year will be even bigger. There will be no meeting in July because of the Fourth of July. Meetings will resume the first Wednesday in August with Kevin Beggs giving a presentation on the Lincolnton Coca Cola Bottling Plant. VBS at Morningside Morningside Baptist Church is calling all kids, ages 3 to 12 to join us at Outriggers Island June 23-27 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Pre-registration will be June 23 at 6 p.m.Hop on the surf board and learn the truth of God's word. Planning meetings The Lincoln County Planning Commission will hold all its regularly scheduled meetings in the Planning and Zoning Conference Room located at 107 Perryman Avenue unless otherwise advertised. The meeting dates are:; July 7; Aug. 11; Sept. 8; Oct. 6; Nov. 10; Dec. 8. Fund set up A fund has been established at Farmers State Bank to aid the Beggs family. The funds collected will help defray medical expenses associated with the cancer treatment and meet the needs of the Beggs family. Contributions to the Beggs Fund may be made at the bank during regular business hours or by using the night depository. Donations may also be mailed to the bank at P.O. Swimming lessons The Lincoln County Recreation Department will give swimming lessons June 9 through June 12 at 6 p.m. It costs $40.00 per child, ages 8 - 16. There is limited space; register early at the LCRP. Men's breakfast The ladies of Newberry Missionary Baptist Church will prepare and serve breakfast for the men on Sunday, June 15, 2008 (Father's Day). TIA Helping Hand The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. Revival at Greenwood Revival services will be held at Greenwood Baptist Church in Lincolnton on Sunday June 15 at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Monday, June 16 through Wednesday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m. each night. VBS at DBBC Vacation Bible School will be held at Double Branches Baptist Church on June 16-20, from 6 to 9 p.m. Children ages 3 through 12 are admitted free. In this one week adventure, you will hear Bible stories, participate in cool crafts, motivating music, eat snacks at the Snack Shack, and play games at the Recreation Reef. Fund set up A special bank account has been set up at Farmers State Bank to benefit Lou McKellar and her daughter, Kelli, whose house burned during a recent move. Fireworks June 27 Adult softball The 13th Annual Fireworks over Lake Russell sponsored by the Elbert County Board of Commissioners will take place from 6 to 9pm on Friday, June 27, 2008 at Richard B. Park activities Gerald Smith will return to the park on Saturday, June 14 to give a lecture on colonial medicine. The concert is free to the public and there is a $10 seed offering for adults; youth are free. The seed will cover the cost of materials, which will be provided at registration. VBS at Hephzibah Hephzibah Baptist Church will be having Vacation Bible School, Monday through Friday, June 16-20, 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. There will be classes for ages three through twelve. CCLC to meet The Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County (CCLC) will have its monthly meeting Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln County library. The guest speaker of the evening is a member of the American Legion, Post # 194. Election of new officers will take place during the meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend. Baseball camp Baseball camp for upcoming grades three through eight. Camp will be held at 6:30 p.m. each evening, June 16- 18 at the Lincoln County Recreation Dept. Cost is $30 per child. Bring your glove and learn fundamentals, along with proper stretching, throwing, hitting, pitching and positions. Camp instructor will be Coach Glen Matthews. Kids in the Kitchen will take place on June 12 at the Lincoln County Extension office. Cost: $6 per person. Come join Mrs. Martha's Kids in the Kitchen classes. She takes you on a Hawaiian tour of food and fun. You will be making snacks for lunch. Minimum: 7 participants. Building a Bird House will take place on June 17 at the Lincoln County Extension office. Cost: $7 per person. IF you enjoy building things, then this is the class for you. Build a wooden bird house that you will paint and take home to your favorite tree. Minimum: 5 participants Fort Discovery Adventure will take place on June 19 in Augusta, Ga. Cost: $5 per person. The National Science Center will make learning fun for all students across the nation about math, science, and technology. Six Flags Adventure will take place on June 24 in Atlanta, GA. Cost: $30.00 per person. Come join your Lincoln 4-H friends as we take on all of the roller coaster rides at Six Flags theme park. Minimum: 10 participants. Let's Go to the Movies on June 27 in Augusta, Ga. Cost: Free. This event is for Lincoln County 4-H'ers who have been active participants for the 2007-2008 school year. Minimum: 10 participants. Mothers honored The First Baptist Church Mother Board will be honoring the oldest members in the church, mother, Rosie Lee Smith, mother, Maudell Leverett, sister, Susie Mae Gartrell and sister, Martha Jones on June 29 at 2 p.m. The public is invited.
