The LCHS Golf Team concluded the season, finishing second in Region 7-A behind Aquinas High School.

The region tournament was held at the Little Fisherman Creek Golf Course in Milledgeville.

The team scores were: Aquinas, 298; LCHS, 334; Monticello, 348; GMC, 380; A.R. Johnson Health Science Engineering Magnet, and Glascock County High School, 457.

The low medalist for Lincoln County was James Williams, who shot a 74. He was followed by Daniel Lee, 85; Roger Boyle, 87; Vance Tarver, 88; and Russell Spratlin, 95; and Grayson Givens, 98.

In addition, Montana Dawkins represented LCHS in the girls tournament, shooting a 114. She missed qualifying for the state tournament by three strokes.

According to Howard Ellis, golf coach at LCHS, "Montana's going to be good. She's just a ninth grader."

In other comments, the coach said the season went very well. "Although James Williams has been the low medalist for the entire year, the other members of the team have played some great golf as well. These golfers have excellent attitudes and worked very hard this year."

Coach Ellis then expressed his appreciation to the owners of Golf De L for allowing the team to use their facility as its home course and to practice there all year.

"We're very fortunate to have a home course - a lot of teams don't have one. Due to the generosity of the people at Golf De L, we can play matches at home instead of having to travel all of the time."

In closing, the coach also thanked the parents of the team members for allowing their children to "practice all year and make the sacrifices needed to have a good team."

Lincoln County likewise competed in the state tournament held at Double Oaks Golf Course in Commerce.

The final scores were: Bremen High School, 291; Mt. Paran High School, 293; Aquinas High School, 296; Mt. Pisgah, 299; Athens Academy, 302; Commerce High School, 308; Brookstone, 309; Calvary, 315; Savannah Country Day School, 315; LCHS, 330; Irwin County, 331; Wilcox County, 340; Trion High School, 351; Pace Academy, 356; Bacon County High School, 359; and Baconton, 383.
