Students recognized at athletic awards ceremony

Approximately 300 people attended the LCHS Athletic Awards Ceremony held Thursday, May 15, in the school cafeteria.
The event was sponsored by the Lincoln County Athletic Booster Club in conjunction with the LCHS Athletic Department.
Guests were welcomed to the ceremony by Larry Campbell, athletic director and head football coach at LCHS.
Those receiving recognition during the course of the evening were:
Varsity Football
Most Valuable Player: Ronell Ferguson.
Most Valuable Defensive Player: Jatoyaus Jones.
Most Valuable Offensive Player: Austin Goldman.
Team Captains: Jamareon Green and Brandon Sparks.
McWhorter Leadership Award: Brian Sparks.
Thomas Bunch Character Award: Johnny Cobb.
Coaches' Golden Helmet Award: Bo Reed and Michael Newman.
Most Valuable Defensive Lineman: Tony Wells.
Most Valuable Linebacker: Tavious McGahee.
Most Valuable Defensive Back: Carlous Hearst.

Most Valuable Offensive Lineman: Garrett Matthews and Daniel Morris.
Most Valuable Special Teams' Player: Vance Tarver and Alex Ellis.
Russell Gibson Heart Award: Tony Wells.
Also recognized were the "Players of the Week," an award given during the season in memory of the late C.G. "Jiggs" Smalley. The Players of the Week were Daniel McAlister, Josh Hollimon, Clifton Timpson, De'Travis Hearst, De'Chane Willis, Tyler Tonsing, and Marquis Parks.

In addition, Coach Marcella Goldman presented Heather Yarbrough with a "Circle of Life" necklace in recognition of her seven years as a cheerleading coach at LCHS. Yarbrough will retire from coaching next year.
