Students recognized at athletic awards ceremony
The event was sponsored by the Lincoln County Athletic Booster Club in conjunction with the LCHS Athletic Department. Guests were welcomed to the ceremony by Larry Campbell, athletic director and head football coach at LCHS. Those receiving recognition during the course of the evening were: Varsity Football Most Valuable Player: Ronell Ferguson. Most Valuable Defensive Player: Jatoyaus Jones. Most Valuable Offensive Player: Austin Goldman. Team Captains: Jamareon Green and Brandon Sparks. McWhorter Leadership Award: Brian Sparks. Thomas Bunch Character Award: Johnny Cobb. Coaches' Golden Helmet Award: Bo Reed and Michael Newman. Most Valuable Defensive Lineman: Tony Wells. Most Valuable Linebacker: Tavious McGahee. Most Valuable Defensive Back: Carlous Hearst.
Most Valuable Receiver: Wilkes Goolsby. Most Valuable Offensive Lineman: Garrett Matthews and Daniel Morris. Most Valuable Special Teams' Player: Vance Tarver and Alex Ellis. Russell Gibson Heart Award: Tony Wells. Also recognized were the "Players of the Week," an award given during the season in memory of the late C.G. "Jiggs" Smalley. The Players of the Week were Daniel McAlister, Josh Hollimon, Clifton Timpson, De'Travis Hearst, De'Chane Willis, Tyler Tonsing, and Marquis Parks. Junior Varsity Football Most Valuable Defensive Player: Steven Morris. Most Valuable Offensive Player: Josh Sims. Leadership Award: Chuck Byrne. Most Promising Player: Franklin Sherman. Varsity Basketball Most Valuable Player: Tristan Wynn and Amanda Gunby. Most Improved Player: De'Travis Hearst and Symone Sherman. Most Valuable Defensive Player: Jatoyaus Jones and Makiah Hawes. Most Valuable Offensive Player: Tristan Wynn and Datamkia Walton. Leadership Award: Cord Harden and Idellian Andrews. Coach's Award: Makiah Hawes. Team Captain: Tony Wells and Amanda Gunby. Spark Award: Alex Ellis, Marquis Parks, De'Chane Willis, Sayah Cummings, and Datamkia Walton. Junior Varsity Basketball Most Valuable Player: Franklin Sherman and Ashia Crew. Coaches' Award: Montana Dawkins. Soccer Most Valuable Player: Mandy Pruitt. Leadership Award: Brian Sparks and Brandon Sparks. Coaches' Award: Vance Woods, Triece Jennings, and Jade Deason. Most Improved Player: Audra Bradford. Varsity Baseball Most Valuable Player: Crafton Reed. Most Valuable Defensive Player: David Lee. Most Valuable Offensive Player: Austin Goldman. Track Most Valuable Player: Stacy McClendon and Makiah Hawes. Most Improved Player: Josh Sims and Ceseley Henderson. Coaches' Award: Roy Palmer and Emily Hinson. Tennis Most Valuable Player: Bo Reed and Kitty Ball. Most Improved Player: Josh Bessinger and Oliver Mongrue. Coaches' Award: Matilda Watson. Golf Most Valuable Player: James Williams. Softball Most Valuable Defensive Player: Jade Deason. Most Valuable Offensive Player: Amberly Barksdale. Most Improved Player: Liz Dunaway. Cheerleading Most Valuable Player: Lena Turner. Leadership Award: Madison Saggus. Most Improved: Eleese Matthews. Dare Devil Award: Barbara Hill. Denise Hamrick Award: Ashton Cartledge. Coaches' Award: Ashley Rivera. In addition, Coach Marcella Goldman presented Heather Yarbrough with a "Circle of Life" necklace in recognition of her seven years as a cheerleading coach at LCHS. Yarbrough will retire from coaching next year. Junior Varsity Cheerleading Most Spirited: Jasmine Searles. Coaches' Award: Whitley Rawlins. Cross Country Most Valuable Player: Larry Reeb and Emily Hinson. In addition to the awards listed above, the following individuals were designated as Scholar-Athletes: Kitty Ball, Roger Boyle, Hannah Crook, Nicole Crook, Savannah Crook, Janelle Dukes, Jazmon Dukes, Brandon Giella, Austin Goldman, Taylor Goldman, and Mandy Pruitt. |
