Sixth and seventh-graders honored at annual reception

Those seventh-grade students receiving "Certificates of Distinction" at the 20th Annual LCMS Sixth and Seventh-Grade Academic Reception were: (l-r) Alex Western, Raquan Beard, Hailey Rosser, Ciara Cosby, Deanne Hearst, Ashley Asbell, Behren Bass, and Brett Matthews.
"Achieving Excellence" was the theme of the 20th Annual Sixth and Seventh-Grade Academic Reception held Tuesday, May 13, in the school cafeteria.

Following the invocation given by Willie Harris, assistant principal at LCMS, Hailey Rosser, the student with the second-highest average in the seventh grade, welcomed those present, and Anjdrea Garnett, the student with the second-highest average

in the sixth grade, led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Highlights of the evening were addresses delivered by sixth-grader Camden Gilpin and seventh-grader Ashley Asbell. These students had the highest academic averages in their respective grades.

Following the addresses, awards were presented to those students who dedicated themselves to excellence this school year. Receiving recognition were:

Sixth-Grade "Certificate of Honor" Students (90-94 average): Tyler Tutt, Jonathan Partlow, Meygan Hogan, Taylor Benning, Tynecia Garnett, Alex Bryan, Ariel King, Savannah Beal, Mitchell Beale, Adam Chastain, Brittany Carson, Lauren Clifton, Aubrey Garcia, Jamie Byrd, Chase Lawson, Gideon Smith, Kristin James, Heather Justice, Ivie Aycock, Caroline Spratlin, Whitley Wright, and Trevor Chadwick.

Sixth-Grade "Certificate of Distinction" Students (95+ average): Macy Hill, Taylor Smith, Bailey Wright, Anjdrea Garnett, Andy Ray Wengrow, Jemarian Hearst, Cole Mattison, James Spratlin, Camden Gilpin, and Bentley Beggs.

Seventh-Grade "Certificate of Honor" Students (90-94 average): Bekendrianna Wynn, Johnetta Elam, Christina Taylor, Emily Beggs, Jessica Reid, Chelsea Davis, Joseph Cobb, Tyler Cole, Rex Bandy, Alec Burt, Blake Murray, Grayson Ashmore, Kahlil Norman, and Jesse Grabb.

The "Citizenship Award" was presented to the following students during the academic reception held recently at LCMS: (l-r) Jemarian Hearst, Lauren Clifton, Jessica Reid, and Alec Burt.

Subject Area Awards (students with the highest averages): Language Arts - Macy Hill, sixth grade, and Ashley Asbell, seventh grade; Reading - Ashley Asbell, seventh grade; Math - Jemarian Hearst, Camden Gilpin, and Taylor Smith, sixth grade, and Jessica Reid and Hailey Rosser, seventh grade; Science - Camden Gilpin, sixth grade, and Hailey Rosser, seventh grade; and Social Studies - Anjdrea Garnett, Camden Gilpin, Jemarian Hearst, and Bailey Wright, sixth grade, and Hailey Rosser, seventh grade.

Citizenship Award: Lauren Clifton and Jemarian Hearst, sixth grade, and Alec Burt and Jessica Reid, seventh grade.

To conclude the awards ceremony, LCMS Principal Pam Carmichael offered words of encouragement to the rising seventh and eighth-grade students.
