Amanda Hill named valedictorian at Augusta State Univ.

Amanda Catherine Hill of Lincolnton was named valedictorian at Augusta State University's annual commencement program, Sat., May 10 at the James Brown Arena in Augusta. The honorable Deke Copenhaver, mayor of Augusta, delivered the commencement address.

More than 700 students received diplomas for completing their degrees either in Dec., 2007 or May, 2008. Hill received her diploma for completing the Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education degree in December. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and was also recognized as being a member of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society.

Amanda is the daughter of Mark and Faith Hill and the grand-daughter of James and Bobbie Aycock, Catherine Hill, and the late Donald Hill. Those attending the graduation ceremony were her parents; her sister, Barbara; Catherine Hill; Florence Sandifer and Brad Sandifer.

Amanda is now enrolled in ASU's masters' program and will complete her degree in Dec., 2008. She will begin her teaching career this fall at Washington-Wilkes Primary School as a second grade teacher.
