Veterans monument should remain
TO THE EDITOR

TO THE EDITOR:

The county courthouse is the most public of buildings in any county. It belongs to all the residents. I have become increasingly aware that a lot of people throughout the county are not aware of the hot-button issue that the veterans monument has become. Moving it to any other location is wrong.

Of my two brothers, one served as a paratrooper during World War II; my younger brother in the Navy during the Korean conflict. Both were awarded Purple Hearts. Both volunteered. Both returned safely home. Three of my brothers-in-law served in the Marines, the Navy and the Air Force. Each volunteered and each returned safely home.

The men whose names are engraved on the veterans monument paid the ultimate sacrifice for all of us. For the Lincoln County government, or any other government to quibble over the cost of maintenance and location is scandalous and utterly disgusting, especially when they can so frivolously spend taxpayers money on more buildings or hiring more employees. If money is such a big issue, why not move funds from the firecracker account?

The veterans monument should remain at the courthouse and be properly maintained.
