Alfred Wesley "A.W." Gaines

Mr. Alfred Wesley "A.W." Gaines, 90, entered into rest on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the residence of his daughter, Angela G. Dickerson of Maple Dr., Griffin, Ga.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at Double Branches Baptist Church with Rev. Wade Palmer and Rev. Russell Davis officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with military honors.

Mr. Gaines was a retired employee with Atlanta Gas Light Company and a member of Jones Chapel. He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served his country honorably during World War II. He was decorated with the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, American Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Gaines was preceded in death by his wife, Elma Inez Williams Gaines and by his first wife, Leitha Mae Brooks Gaines.

Survivors include four daughters, Shirley J. Crumbley of Locust Grove, Ga., Angela G. Dickerson and Marsha A. Henderson, of Griffin, Teresa L. Nicholson of Rome, Ga.; two sons, Clarence W. Gaines and Thomas G. Gaines, of Locust Grove, Ga.; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen greatgrandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
