Devils drop two in a row but remain in region hunt
By David Lee

Lincoln County knew coming into the week that Region 7-A is a tight race, and that everybody has a chance to take the top spot. That is why the two scheduled games were very important for their chances in the race. They faced stiff competition in GMC and Wilkinson and were unable to gain any ground in the standings, dropping both games.

The Devils hit the road to Milledgeville on Tuesday to face Georgia Military, who was in the same position in the standings as LCHS. Crafton Reed took the mound for the Devils and had a rough start, walking the first three batters of the game. All three eventually scored for GMC. But Reed fought back and pitched three scoreless innings after that, keeping the Devils in the game.

However, they were unable to do anything at the plate. The score remained 3-0 until the fifth, when Lincoln County scored two runs on walks and errors. David Lee relieved Reed and pitched two scoreless innings, but the Devils couldn't put a run across in the final two innings. Despite out hitting GMC 6-2, the Devils lost 3-2.

LCHS hit the road again on Friday, this time to Wilkinson County to face another team in similar position in the region. Dalton Tankersley hit the mound for the Devils and also had a rough start, walking the first two batters. Two errors caused both runs to score, and they added one more in the inning for a three-run first inning. Wilkinson crossed the plate two more times in the second inning to take a five-run lead early.

Again, the Devils were silenced at the plate, not being able to score until the fourth. Larry Reeb began the inning with a single and advanced on a Reed single. Both scored on hits by Josh Hollimon and Aiken Davis. Tankersley settled down and pitched three and a third scoreless innings after the rough start. But again, the offense was unable to put a rally together and attempt a comeback. They were defeated by the score of 6-2.

Lincoln County has four days to prep for their Friday showdown with Monticello. The Hurricanes currently sit in second place with only one region loss to their record. The Devils sit in fifth place, but only two games back.
