HOW MUCH WATER
After watering, the soil in the vegetable garden should be moist to a depth of 8 to 10 inches, say experts with the University of Georgia Extension Service. If the moisture isn't that deep, evaluate your watering technique. Generally, applying 1 inch of water to the surface will wet the soil 6 to 8 inches deep.
