TIA Helping Hand

The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/ 50.

Planning meetings

The Lincoln County Planning Commission will hold all its regularly scheduled meetings in the Planning and Zoning Conference Room located at 107 Perryman Avenue unless otherwise advertised. The meeting dates are: April 7; May 5; June 9; July 7; Aug. 11; Sept. 8; Oct. 6; Nov. 10; Dec. 8.

Board of elections meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, Ga. Any changes to the scheduled dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

Leadership conference

First Baptist Church will host a Leadership Conference April 12, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. Rev. Dennis Quinn, pastor.

Athletic awards night Lincoln County Middle School is planning its first annual Athletic Awards Night for Tues., April 15 at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. All students who participated in sports during the 2007-2008 school year are invited to attend, along with their parents.

Golf tourney

The Lincoln County Athletic Boosters Club will sponsor a golf tournament March 29 at Golf de L (formerly Rocky Branch Golf Course). It will be a 4-man handicap, 24 max handi- cap with a 9 a.m. or 1 p.m. shotgun. $1000 cash prize closest to pin.

Baseball camp

The 28th annual Robert Sapp Baseball Camp is accepting applications for its summer session to be held at Sweetwater Park in Thomson, June 2-6, 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. Camp is for ages 7- 14. Six-year-olds may attend if they are skilled enough to play with the seven-year old group. The fee is $125 with team rates available ($10 discount for five or more players). The camp will feature fundamentals, game competition, videos, motivational and instructional lectures and demonstrations. Dinner served

Dinner served at American Legion Post 194 every Wed. night at 6:30 p.m. and Fri. at 7 p.m. Wednesday's menu changes weekly. Every Friday is steak night. A large variety salad bar, shrimp cocktail, baked potato, bread, dessert and ice tea are included with steak. Come out and join us for a delicious meal.

Mini golf tourney

Elijah Clarke State Park presents the Masters Week Parent/Child Miniature Golf Tournament April 9 from 1-4 p.m. Each parent-child team will play 18 holes of miniature golf. Everyone who enters will receive free use of golf clubs, balls, and greens. There will be prizes for the top two finishers in each age group (age 5 - teenagers) for the best-dressed team, for the first hole in one, and for the family who drives the longest distance to play. Youth Spring dance

The Ladies Auxiliary of Post 597 will sponsor a Spring Dance for Youth, grades 6-8, Thursday, April 10, 7:30-10:30 p.m. The dance will be well chaperoned and refreshments will be provided. Once youth enter, they will not be allowed to leave until the end of the dance or until picked up by a responsible party. A small admission will be charged at the door. Scrabble Club Sun.

Do you like to play Scrabble? The newly-formed Scrabble Club will meet Sunday, April 6, 2 -5 p.m. at the Dova Partridge Annex at Lincoln County Library. Anyone 12 and over who wants to play is invited to attend. Please bring your Scrabble board so we'll have enough boards. Friends of the Library is sponsoring this event and hopes to continue it the first Sunday afternoon of each month as long as interest lasts. FOL is providing the munchies. Come have a little fun!

LWREA to meet

The Lincoln-Wilkes Retired educators Association (LWREA) will meet at 11 a.m., Thurs., April 10 at the Lincoln County Library, 118 Peachtree St., Lincolnton. All retired educators are invited to attend. Frances Zellars is president.

Pancake fundraiser

We at the Huddle House would like to thank everyone for their support helping us raise money for the American Cancer Society. We are only $120 from our goal, so please come by between now and Friday noon and eat all the pancakes you can for a $5 donation.

Luncheon April 4

The "Lincoln Lifers" will host a luncheon from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Fri., April 4 at Clark Hill Rental on Peachtree St. to raise funds for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. The organizers are asking for donations of $5 per person. There will also be a bake sale on the premises.

Women's conference

The second annual Women's Conference of Faith Tabernacle Church will be held Fri., April 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Sat., April 5 at 8:30 a.m. The theme is "Learning to Embrace the Seasons of Our Lives." Keynote speaker will be Bishop Sheldon Hudson of Cross All Boundaries Church, Ridgeway, S.C.

Graduation tests

The Georgia High School Graduation Test will be given the week of March 31 through April 4 according to the following schedule:

Mon., March 31 - language arts; Tues., April 1 - math; Wed., April 2 - social studies; Thurs., April 3 - science; Fri., April 4 - make-up testing.

All tests will be given at 8:15 a.m. each morning.

Auxiliary to meet

The Ladies Auxiliary Unit 194 of the American Legion will hold their monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 10 at the Post Home. All members are encouraged to attend and new members are welcome.

Fund set up

A special bank account has been set up at Farmers State Bank to benefit Lou McKellar and her daughter, Kelli, whose house burned during a recent move. Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) will be at The Lincoln County Senior Center, 160 May Ave., on Mon., April 14 from 11:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. to meet with seniors wanting free, non-criminal help on a firstcome, first-serve basis.

Golf tourney

Harry's Lounge and Restaurant is hosting its 5th Annual Golf Tournament at Hickory Knob Golf Course on Sat., May 17. Format is Captain's Choice with a shotgun start at 9 a.m., and dinner and awards following the tournament at Harry's.
