Nationally-known motivational speaker will spend day at LCHS

MILTON CREAGH
Milton Creagh (KREE-uh), a nationally known motivational speaker, author, television personality, and corporate consultant, will visit Lincolnton on Thursday, March 27, to talk to students at LCHS as well as adults in the community about everything from drugs and hip-hop to work ethics and good parenting.

During the day, he will speak to high school students on the following topics:

.. "Sex, Drugs, and Hip-Hop," which deals with the connections between drug and alcohol use and premature sexual activity as well as the cross marketing of sex and drugs in modern music.

The seminar likewise examines other relational problems tied to drinking such as sexual assault, harassment, and domestic violence.

.. "The Mask," a presentation that helps students understand the dangers associated with drug and alcohol abuse and how the decisions they make now will impact their future.

.. "Who Are You?" a presentation that examines the factors that most strongly influence our thoughts, belief systems, opinions, and our actions and how easily we can lose ourselves in other people's expectations of us - sometimes with disastrous results.

Creagh's program for adults, titled "Nobody Wants Your Child," is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The workshop is based on the principles outlined in his book of the same name.

During the seminar, Creagh will offer an overview of the things parents do that make it difficult for their child to do well as an adult in the workplace, at home, and in society in general.

The speaker will also discuss the lack of a solid work ethic among the nation's youth and provide a blueprint to help get kids on the right track for a successful life.

Parents, teachers, school administrators, youth leaders, pastors, civic leaders, and other interested adults are encouraged to attend.

Reared on Chicago's Southside, Creagh is best known for his hardhitting, inspirational talks to high school students. Speaking to more than 200,000 young adults annually, he is one of the most in-demand speakers in America. In fact, he has spoken in 49 states as well as Canada, Central America, South America, the Caribbean, and Africa.

His client list includes AT & T, BellSouth, the Chicago Blackhawks, the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), E-Trade, Florida A & M University, Ford Motor Company, Harvard University, the Hyundai Corporation, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the NCAA Coaches Association, the NFL, Penn State University, the United States Air Force Academy, the United Auto Workers, the United States Army, and the University of Delaware.

Creagh attended Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, on a combination athletic/academic scholarship. The former National Merit Scholar was elected president of the Student Government Association his senior year and organized two mission trips to Haiti for athletes.

His career is marked by numerous distinctions. He has twice been a participant in the prestigious W.K. Kellogg Foundation Expert in Residence program; he was invited to the White House to meet President Bill Clinton; and he has served as a presenter at the NFL's Super Bowl Experience.

Moreover, Creagh, also known as "Bigg Milt," is the former host of the national PBS series, "Parenting Works." He likewise hosted two prime time specials for WPBA Channel 30 in Atlanta: "The Black Male: An Endangered Species" and "Atlanta Facing AIDS" as well as the Covenant Award-winning docudrama, "Masquerade: Unveiling our Deadly Dance with Drugs and Alcohol," which has aired on over 250 local broadcast affiliates.

In addition, the motivational speaker has been featured in three nationally-syndicated television specials for MTI/Coronet Films: "Trap: Selling Drugs in the Inner City;" "Prejudice: Dividing the Dream;" and "Diversity in the USA." He and his family divide their time between Atlanta and Chicago.

According to Regina Reid, graduation coach at LCHS, "We believe that motivational speakers such as Mr. Creagh have a positive effect on our students. It is our responsibility as parents, teachers, and members of the community to help our youth stay focused on making good choices, both personally and professionally."
