TIA Helping Hand

The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. Planning meetings

The Lincoln County Planning Commission will hold all its regularly scheduled meetings in the Planning and Zoning Conference Room located at 107 Perryman Avenue unless otherwise advertised. The meeting dates are: April 7; May 5; June 9; July 7; Aug. 11; Sept. 8; Oct. 6; Nov. 10; Dec. 8.

Passion Play

First Assembly of God will present a Passion Play on Good Friday, March 21 at 7 p.m. This will be a time of worship with music and drama depicting the Life of Christ. A nursery will be provided. First Assembly is located on the Thomson Highway. For more information, call 359-7237.

Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County invites everyone to a meeting at the Lincoln County Library March 20 at 6:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Brett McGuire, candidate for representative of District 117.

LCSSU conference

The Lincoln County Sunday School Union will hold Conference 2008 at White Rock Baptist Church Sat., March 29. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and workshops begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. Presenters include the following: Rev. William Blount, pastor of Greater Young Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Augusta; Dr. James Hogan, pastor of New Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Augusta; Mrs. Charlotte Garnett of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Thomson. Rev. Demetrius Porter of Washington, Ga. will present the closing sermon. Rev. Seymour Harrison, Pastor. Rev. Willie J. White, President of the Lincoln County Sunday School Union.

Sunrise service

Anthony Chapel United Methodist Church will have an Easter Sunrise Service with breakfast to follow, March 23 at 7 a.m. Breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

Mini golf tourney

Elijah Clarke State Park presents the Masters Week Parent/Child Miniature Golf Tournament April 9 from 1-4 p.m. Each parent-child team will play 18 holes of miniature golf. Everyone who enters will receive free use of golf clubs, balls, and greens. There will be prizes for the top two finish- ers in each age group (age 5 - teenagers) for the best-dressed team, for the first hole in one, and for the family who drives the longest distance to play. Golf tourney

The Lincoln County Athletic Boosters Club will sponsor a golf tournament March 29 at Golf de L (formerly Rocky Branch Golf Course). It will be a 4-man handicap, 24 max handicap with a 9 a.m. or 1 p.m. shotgun. $1000 cash prize closest to pin.

Mobile mammography The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department March 18..

Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information

Dinner served

Dinner served at American Legion Post 194 every Wed. night at 6:30 p.m. and Fri. at 7 p.m. Wednesday's menu changes weekly. Every Friday is steak night. A large variety salad bar, shrimp cocktail, baked potato, bread, dessert and ice tea are included with steak. Come out and join us for a delicious meal.

Auxiliary to meet

The Ladies Auxiliary Unit 194 will have their monthly meeting Thurs., March 13, 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post 194. All members are encouraged to attend and new members are always welcome. Please remember to bring the following items for the food pantry: grits, self-rising flour and cornmeal.

Plate sale Sat.

The Thomas-Lane American Legion Post 597, located on Thomas Lane Post Road will have a plate sale Sat., March 29 at noon. Plates will consist of barbecue chicken and all the trimmings. For more information, telephone the post at (706) 359-4451.

Trail ride March 29

The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce invites area horsemen to the Terry Tankersley Memorial Trail Ride at Bussey Point Recreation Area Sat., March 29 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Cost is $5 per horse with primitive camping with lunch on the 'Point.' Water available for horses only. No dogs please. Contact the chamber at 706-359-7970 for directions and more information.

Board meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, GA 30817, any changes to the schedule dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

Bingo on Friday

BINGO! Fridays, 7:30 p.m. at American Legion Post 194 in Lincolnton.

A snack bar operated by the Ladies Auxiliary is available during Bingo. Items available include hot dogs, nacho chips, candy bars, chips and soft drinks.

Turkey shoot

The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 194 will have a turkey shoot March 22 at the American Legion Fairgrounds from 7 - 10 p.m. The drawing for the Stoeger M2000 automatic 12 gauge APG Camo Synthetic 23/4 inch and 3 inch gun will be held. Youth Spring dance

The Ladies Auxiliary of Post 597 will sponsor a Spring Dance for Youth, grades 6-8, Thursday, April 10, 7:30-10:30 p.m. The dance will be well chaperoned and refreshments will be provided. Once youth enter, they will not be allowed to leave until the end of the dance or until picked up by a responsible party. A small admission will be charged at the door. Men, Women's Day

Pleasant Grove C.M.E. Church will hold its annual Men and Women's Day on Sunday, April 6 at 2 p.m. Rev. Franklin Jones and Freedom Ministries Church will be in charge of the service. All churches are invited to help us celebrate this annual day. Rev. Clayton, Pastor.

The Hearst familly will hold a meeting at the home of Willie and Ruby Moore on March 29 at 5 p.m.

Fifth Sun. sing

St. Paul United Methodist Church will be having a Fifth-Sunday Sing featuring The Southern Songmasters with Warren Newsome from Thomson, Ga. March 30 at 6 p.m. St. Paul is located five miles south of Lincolnton on Hwy 43.

Hat Day March 30

Abundant Life Church of God, 3086 Chamberlain Ferry Rd., invites everyone to "Martha-Mahu Hat Day," Sun., March 30 at 11 a.m. For a $2 donation to Mobile Mammography in honor of Martha Brandenberg, everyone is invited to wear his/her favorite hat to church. Be creative and dress up your hat for competition. Awards will be given for the following categories: Most Creative, Ugliest and Silliest. Please join us in the fight against breast cancer!

Lowery to speak

Successful Family Day at Lincolnton Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Lowery will be held Sun., March 30. Dr. Lowery's unique style of humor, encouragement, and motivation has made him one of the most sought after speakers in the country. He will preach Sun. at 11 a.m. and offer two evening seminars, beginning at 6 p.m. on how to have a successful marriage and how to be a successful parent. This event will be open to the community. We hope this event will be used by God to reach all who are in search of answers.

Luncheon April 4

The "Lincoln Lifers" will host a luncheon from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Fri., April 4 at Clark Hill Rental on Peachtree St. to raise funds for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. The organizers are asking for donations of $5 per person. There will also be a bake sale on the premises.

Senior honorarium

High school seniors may apply for an honorarium sponsored by the Lincoln Wilkes Retired Educators Association (LWREA). The student must: plan to attend college or a vocational school for 2008 - 2009; write a 250- 500 word essay on the topic "The Importance of Furthering My Education."

Please provide a cover page with your name, date, name of high school, and the name of the college or vocational school you plan to attend. Deadline is Mon., March 31. Contact 706-359-4592.

Women's conference

The second annual Women's Conference of Faith Tabernacle Church will be held Fri., April 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Sat., April 5 at 8:30 a.m. The theme is "Learning to Embrace the Seasons of Our Lives." Keynote speaker will be Bishop Sheldon Hudson of Cross All Boundaries Church, Ridgeway, S.C.

Graduation tests

The Georgia High School Graduation Test will be given the week of March 31 through April 4 according to the following schedule:

Mon., March 31 - language arts; Tues., April 1 - math; Wed., April 2 - social studies; Thurs., April 3 - science; Fri., April 4 - make-up testing.

All tests will be given at 8:15 a.m. each morning.

Revival services

Loco Baptist Church will hold revival services March 30 - April 2 beginning at 7 p.m. nightly. Rev. Ben Glossen will be the featured speaker. A nursery will be provided. Loco is located off Hwy. 220 W on Loco Church Rd.

Festival/cookoff

The 2008 Dixie Bluegrass Festival and Chili Cookoff is planned for Saturday, March 29th at the Battle of Aiken Reenactment Park, Exit 18 at I-20 in Aiken.

The festival will feature 5 Bluegrass Bands, Darlene and the Reflections of Bluegrass, The Lamb Family Bluegrass, The Carolina Rebels, The Palmetto Pickers, and Bluegrass Country. Legal help

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) will be at The Lincoln County Senior Center, 160 May Ave., on Mon., April 14 from 11:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. to meet with seniors wanting free, non-criminal help on a firstcome, first-serve basis.

Barbecue sale
