Robert Hardy Candler Mr. Robert Hardy Candler, 80, of Rome, Ga., entered into rest following an extended illness. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church with Dr. David Campbell and Rev. Ruth Shaw officiating. Interment followed in Oakland Cemetery. Mr. Candler was born November 17, 1927 in Lincolnton to the late Walter Linton Candler and Mary Strother Candler. He was a pharmacist for over 40 years owning and operating Candler Drugs. Mr. Candler was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army Air Corp. in Guam. He was a very active member of Trinity United Methodist Church having served in numerous offices and committees; he taught Sunday school for a number of years and was on the North Georgia Conference on ministries for the United Methodist Church. Mr. Candler was on the Board of the Hospitality House and a volunteer for Redmond Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by one sister and nine brothers. Survivors include his wife, Nell Cooper Candler to whom he was married for 51 years; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Dr. Larry Tucker of Rome; two grandchildren, Martha Tucker of Rome and Cadet 3rd Class Wil Tucker, United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado; two brothers, W.L Candler of Thomson, Ga. and Albert Candler of Augusta, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Wil Tucker, Ralph Rush, Dennis Chumley, Grant Magness, Tommy Candler and Sam Evans. The family respectfully asks in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 606 Turner McCall Blvd., Rome, Ga. 30165 or to your favorite charity. Daniel's Funeral Home was in charge of services. |
