Brindleys treated to surprise dinner for 65th anniversary

MR. AND MRS. BRINDLEY
Dixie Turnbull, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brindley hosted a surprise sit down dinner party in honor of the couple in her home on February 23, 2008.

The dining and kitchen area was decorated with tables placed as if in a fine bistro with white table cloths and baby pink overlays. Centerpieces were an arrangement of petite white carnations with baby pink roses which were arranged in a candle lit vase with silver and gold streamers ascending. Placed around the rooms were congratulatory banners and a factual ledger on occurrences that took place in the year 1943. Placed so elegantly on the China hutch were photos of the couple of yesterday and today along with a wedding photo of the couple back in 1943.

The guests and honorees were served a gourmet salad and beverage of choice followed by a delectable Italian dinner menu of lasagna, meatballs, mozzarella cheese sticks and garlic bread. All were served by waitresses Cherish Winscot, Kadius Turnbull, Jasmine Turnbull and Kaitlyn Turnbull, all great-granddaughters of Charlotte and Lamar. Preparations of the dinner plates were presented by Dixie Turnbull, Katie Turnbull, Kathy Bentley and Billy Goodwin.

After dinner the couple cut the cake which was a delicious white two tier cake decorated with white and baby pink roses. Jackie Echols of Crawfordville made the cake. A pictorial film of the couple and their 65 years of love and devotion towards family and friends were viewed, followed by a scrap book presentation in which all guests attending shared their own personal messages with congratulations and heartfelt sentiments. A congratulatory picture and card sent to the couple from the President of the United States and First Lady was also included in the scrap book.

The evening continued with the unwrapping of cards and gifts for the couple. Reminiscing was enjoyed by all with not only the times gone past but also in making of new memories.

Family and friends came from near and far for this joyous occasion. Those attending included Dixie Turnbull, daughter; David Turnbull; Kevin and Kathy Bentley, granddaughter; Shawn and Melissa Turnbull, grandson; Scott and Katie Turnbull, grandson; Cherish Winscot, Bailey Bentley, Kaitlyn Turnbull, Jacob Turnbull, Stephen Turnbull, John Mathew Turnbull, Kandius Turnbull and Jasmine Turnbull, great-grandchildren, all of Lincolnton; Barb and Ricky Gray, granddaughter; Suzie and Billy Caltigrone, granddaughter; Christopher Gray, Ashley Caltigrone, BJ Caltigrone, Brent Caltigrone and Tylee Caltigrone, great-grandchildren all of North Carolina; Chuck Anderson, grandson and Shelby Anderson, great-granddaughter, both of South Carolina; Julie Binner of Lincolnton; Billy Goodwin of Washington, Ga.; Dr. Stan and Elizabeth Coe of Washington; Dave (Biscuit) and Rhonda Tantish of North Carolina.
