The Georgia Jr. National Livestock Show was held at the Ga. National Fair Grounds in Perry, Georgia, Feb. 20-24.
Lincoln Co. 4-H Show Team did an outstanding job of exhibiting their steer and heifer projects at this years show.
At the state livestock show 4-H and FFA members from across the state of Georgia brought their steer and heifer projects to be displayed and exhibited in respective breed, market wt, showmanship classes.
This year's show was absolutely just as good as last years. Steer show participants were Justin Ashmore, Ive Sue Aycock, C.J. and Carson Goldman, Sadie Partridge, and Dalton, Tankersley.
The 2008 steer and heifer show competition was stiff but Lincoln Co. 4-H show team brought home several awards and many ribbons. The highlight at the state livestock was Justin Ashmore 1405 lb Simmental steer which was absolutely amazing. He was shown in the heavy wt. class and took first place. At the end of the Simmental breed steer show, Justin walked away with Reserve Grand Champion Steer. Justin's steer is a black baldie that exhibits all the right qualities you would want in an ideal steer.
In the Main Anjou breed class C.J. Goldman took his 1280lb steer into the showring and walked away with a second place ribbon. This was a very tough class of steers that made the show very exciting.
In addition, C.J. exhibited a very fine Main Anjou heifer that won third in class.
In the Chi Influence division, Dalton Tankersley's 1325 lb steer did a good job in a tough class of competitors.
We had quite a few entries in the Crossbred division. Justin Ashmore, Ivy Aycock and Sadie Partridge did a great job of representing the Lincoln Co. 4-H Show team with their entries of 1085lbs, 1185lbs and 1385 lbs. Lincoln Co. 4-H Show team competed in the county group of five and walked away with a third place finish. In addition, Sadie Partridge, Carson Goldman and Ivy Aycock were new to the steer show scene and very proud of them for having a successful show season. They participated in the first year steer show event and Carson Goldman won her class. Hats off to all of our showmen for doing a fine job exhibiting steers in the wt classes and showmanship.
