M.A.D. Night will feature music, paintings and drama
The 24th Annual M.A.D. (Music, Art, and Drama) Night will be held Monday, March 3, beginning at 7 p.m. in the LCHS Auditorium.
The event is sponsored each year by the LCMS/LCHS Fine Arts Department.
The music for the occasion will be provided by the following:
.. The LCHS Red Devil Pride Concert Band is slated to perform "Pulsar," a concert march arranged by Eric Osterling; "Romanesque," arranged by James Swearingen; and "Novo Lenio," arranged by Samuel R. Hazo. The group will perform the selections again when it competes at a concert band festival set for Wednesday, March 12, at Burke County High School.
.. The LCMS Sixth and Eighth- Grade Choir, under the direction of Carolee Hobbins, will sing "A Lovely Night" and dance "The Gavotte" from the musical "Cinderella." The musical will be presented in its entirety on Friday, May 16, (Sixth Grade) and Saturday, May 17, (Eighth Grade) in the school auditorium.
.. The LCHS Musical Theatre Class, under the direction of Carolee Hobbins and Randy Smith, is scheduled to perform "The Mob Song" from "Beauty and the Beast." The class is making preparations to present the popular musical Thursday, May 8, through Saturday, May 10, in the school auditorium.

.. Ashley Rivera will sing "Storm Weather," and the LCHS Girls Trio, comprised of Rivera, Sarah Herring, and Julie Bennett, will perform "You Stole My Love." The girls are set to travel to GMC in Milledgeville on Tuesday, March 4, to compete in the Region 7-A Literary Meet.
The students listed below will be featured during the drama segment of the evening:
.. Amanda Dion will perform an excerpt from the play, "Always Patsy Cline," by Ted Swindley, and Raphael Albea will present an excerpt from the book, "Black Boy," by Richard Wright. Both Dion and Albea will compete in dramatic interpretation at the region literary meet.
.. Sarah Herring is scheduled to perform an excerpt from the play, "Ruthless," by Joel Paley. Herring qualified for the National Forensics League (NFL) National Tournament with the piece.
.. Dion and Herring will present "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs" based on the children's book of the same name by Jon Scieszka. Their performance of the piece garnered the students a first alternate bid in duo interpretation for NFLNationals.
The students are coached by Lee Robinson, literary coordinator, debate coach, and English teacher at LCHS.
In addition, prior to curtain time and during the stage intermission, patrons may view an art exhibit created by students of Lori Cope, art teacher at LCMS/LCHS.
The exhibit will feature self-portraits created by members of the senior class in the style of artist Chuck Close. Along with these paintings, visitors can also enjoy pencil drawings, rendered by underclassmen, that depict how they look now or how they appeared as babies or small children.
Members of the community are encouraged to support the talented students at LCMS and LCHS by attending M.A.D. Night, which is certain to be a memorable evening of diverse cultural entertainment.
Admission is $3. Middle school and high school Gold Cards will be accepted.
