McGuire kicks off campaign for house seat in Lincolnton Brett McGuire (R) held two press conferences on Thursday, January 17, to kick off his campaign for the District 117 seat in the Georgia House of Representatives. The seat is presently held by Barry Fleming, who has announced he will step down to run against incumbent Paul Broun for the privilege of representing the 10th District in the United States Congress. McGuire's press conferences took place at the Lincoln County Courthouse and in Grovetown, with various local officials in attendance. The candidate decided to hold two press conferences to voice his commitment to serve the entire district, including the smaller rural communities. One of the largest districts in the state, Georgia House District 117 encompasses most of Columbia County, Lincoln County, and a portion of Wilkes County. According to McGuire, a retired business manager from Appling, "Since Barry Fleming announced he will step down to run for United States Congress, I've had people in all parts of the district call me and encourage me to run for this seat. I am committed to representing our citizens with 'smart' decisions based on common sense and conservative values. "We have many issues that are important to our area such as the water supply, illegal immigration, health care, and taxes," the candidate continued. "Our district needs someone who can effectively articulate these needs and produce results with bipartisan support. Lincoln County must receive effective representation to address issues that affect Clark's Hill Lake and the rapid growth of the county." McGuire brings a common-sense approach and a strong work ethic to the District 117 race. His campaign platform stresses that he is the smart choice to protect the values and needs of working families, rural communities, and the senior citizens of Lincoln County and the entire district. |
