TIA Helping Hand

The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/ 50.

Planning meetings

The Lincoln County Planning Commission will hold all its regularly scheduled meetings in the Planning and Zoning Conference Room located at 107 Perryman Avenue unless otherwise advertised. The meeting dates are: Jan. 7, 2008; Feb. 11; March 10; April 7; May 5; June 9; July 7; Aug. 11; Sept. 8; Oct. 6; Nov. 10; Dec. 8.

Board meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, GA 30817, any changes to the schedule dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

Little League registration

Lincoln County Little League registration for baseball is now taking place. You can sign up at Cliatt Crossing, Farmers & Merchant Bank, Goldman & Wengrow or the LC Recreation Dept. Deadline is Feb. 29, 2008.

Class of 68 to meet

The Lincoln County High School Class of 1968 will have a class reunion planning meeting at the Dova Partridge Annex of the library on Jan. 29, 7 p.m. Classmates are encouraged to come out and help plan the 40th reunion.

Democrats to meet

The democratic party will meet at the Lincoln County Public Library on Mon., Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. Dr. Lowell Greenbaum, chairman of the Richmond County Democratic Party, will be the guest speaker.

Upward offered Upward Basketball and Cheerleading is currently open for registration for all boys and girls in K5-6th grades at the First Assembly of God offices. The cost is $45 per child and includes a jersey, t-shirt, water bottle and end of year award. Scholarships are available for any child needing financial assistance.

Young Miss pageant

The Lincoln Young Miss Pageant will be held Jan. 31 in the LCHS Auditorium at 7 p.m. Applications will be sent to the elementary school on Jan. 7. Applications may also be picked up at Koehler Galleries and the high school from Janet Dukes, FBLA Adviser.

The application fee is $30 and the deadline to enter is Jan. 18 and should be returned to Janet Dukes, FBLA Adviser at LCHS.

Women's ministry

Marriage appreciation

Marriage Appreciation Observance will be held at Newberry Missionary Baptist Church on Jan. 20 at 11:15 a.m. during regular worship service. Couples are invited to dress in basic black with gold accessories. Rev. Willie J. White is pastor.

FOL to meet

Friends of the Library will meet Tues. afternoon, Jan. 22, 3:30 p.m. at the library. Members wanting to take a more active part in FOL activities are invited to attend.

NWTF banquet

The Lincoln County Elementary School Council will meet Jan. 22 and Feb. 19 at 7:30 a.m.

Computer classes

Computer literacy for basic and intermediate classes will begin Tuesday, Jan. 8 and will be held Tues., and Thurs. for four weeks. Hours will be 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. for basic and 1 - 3 p.m. for intermediates.

Legal help

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Lincoln County at The Senior Center, 160 May Ave., on Mon., Feb. 11 from 9 - 11 a.m. to meet with seniors needing free legal, non-criminal help on first come, first serve basis.

A called meeting of the Legionnaires and Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 597 will be held Thurs., Jan 17 at 7 p.m. All legionnaires and members of the auxiliary are urged to be in attendance. Matters concerning upcoming programs need to be addressed.

MLK observance

Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday observance will be held Sun., Jan. 20, 3 p.m. at the Lincoln County High School Auditorium. The observance is sponsored by TIA, Lincoln County NAACP, Lincoln County Government, and the City of Lincolnton.

Mister pageant

The third annual Mister Lincoln County Middle School contest and the first annual Mister Lincoln County High School contest is scheduled for Mon., Feb. 4 in the school auditorium. Applications can be picked up in both the middle and high school offices. Application deadline is Fri., Jan. 18. Entry fee is $30. Late deadline is Tues., Jan. 22. Late entry fee is $40. Free tuxedo rentals for the evening will be given to all contestants by M. W. Tux of the Augusta Mall.

Yard sale Feb. 2

A yard sale to raise money for the Relay for Life will be held at Martin's Crossroads Church Fellowship Hall, Hwy. 220 and Double Branches Rd., on Sat., Feb. 2 from 7 a.m. - 1 p.m. They will have household items, old wooden windows and doors and lots more.

SALS to meet

The Sons of American Legion, Squadron 194 will meet Tues., Feb. 12, 7:30 p.m. at the post home. All members are asked to please attend.

Turkey shoot Feb. 2

The Sons of American Legion, Squadron 194 will have a turkey shoot on Sat., Feb. 2, 7 - 10 p.m. at the American Legion Fairgrounds. Concessions will be available.

CCLC to meet

The Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County invites the public to attend its Jan. 17 meeting, 6:30 p.m. at the library on Peachtree St., Lincolnton. Guest speaker will be District 10 Representative Barry Fleming.
