GED/Adult classes

Augusta Technical College and Lincoln County Family Connection are offering GED/Adult Literacy classes on Mon., Tues., and Thurs. from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Wed., from 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. For more information, please call 706-359-3425 or 706-359-5769.

TIA Helping Hand

The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/ 50.

All donations are welcome, we will pick up. Your donations are appreciated. Hours of operation are: Thurs., 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.; Sat., 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. For more information, please call 706-359-7838 or 706-359-7345.

Planning meetings

The Lincoln County Planning Commission will hold all its regularly scheduled meetings in the Planning and Zoning Conference Room located at 107 Perryman Avenue unless otherwise advertised. The meeting dates are: Jan. 7, 2008; Feb. 11; March 10; April 7; May 5; June 9; July 7; Aug. 11; Sept. 8; Oct. 6; Nov. 10; Dec. 8.

Board meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, GA 30817, any changes to the schedule dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

H&E Conference

All area pastors, deacons, Sunday school teachers, school teachers, parents, students, youth groups, clubs, etc. are invited to a Family & Community Health & Education Conference Sat., Feb. 2, 9 a.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Lincolnton.

Many educational topics will be discussed such as STDs, HIV and Aids, tobacco, drugs, pregnancy, grief, food, nutrition and much more.

Men's softball

If you are interested in entering a team for adult men's softball fall league, contact the LCRD at 359- 2236.

PNGC to meet The Pine Needle Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Jan. 14 in the Lincoln County Library. Gloria Nelson has a special guest, Mr. Ken Boyd, who is with the Corps of Engineers to present a program on birds.

Members are reminded to come and bring a friend. Visitors are welcome.

LWREA to meet

The Lincoln-Wilkes Retired Educators Association (LWREA) will meet at 11 a.m. on Thurs., Jan. 10 at Mary Willis Library, 204 East Liberty St. in Washington. Remember to bring your 2006-2007 GREA copy of awards and recognition guidelines. All retired educators are invited to attend. Frances F. Zellars is president.

Upward offered Upward Basketball and Cheerleading is currently open for registration for all boys and girls in K5-6th grades at the First Assembly of God offices. The cost is $45 per child and includes a jersey, t-shirt, water bottle and end of year award. Scholarships are available for any child needing financial assistance.

Young Miss pageant

The Lincoln Young Miss Pageant will be held Jan. 31 in the LCHS Auditorium at 7 p.m. Applications will be sent to the elementary school on Jan. 7. Applications may also be picked up at Koehler Galleries and the high school from Janet Dukes, FBLA Adviser.

The application fee is $30 and the deadline to enter is Jan. 18 and should be returned to Janet Dukes, FBLA Adviser at LCHS.

Women's ministry

Bethel Under the Blood Ministry, 309A Spring St., Washington, will have Women Ministry on Friday nights at 7:30 p.m. For more information, please call 706-726-3155.

Auxiliary to meet

The Ladies Auxiliary Unit 194 will have its monthly meeting Thurs., Jan. 10, 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post 194. All members are encouraged to attend and new members are welcome. Please remember to bring the following items for the food pantry: instant potatoes, macaroni & cheese, saltines and cooking oil.

Booster club meeting

The LCHS Academic Booster Club will meet on Mon., Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. All members are encouraged to attend.

NWTF banquet

LCES Council meeting

The Lincoln County Elementary School Council will meet Jan. 22 and Feb. 19 at 7:30 a.m.

Computer classes

Computer literacy for basic and intermediate classes will begin Tuesday, Jan. 8 and will be held Tues., and Thurs. for four weeks. Hours will be 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. for basic and 1 - 3 p.m. for intermediates.

Partridge to perform

The Augusta Symphony will present Diva on the Rise Jan. 12, 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Augusta. The symphony will feature Leah Partridge, soprano singing Mahler Symphony No. 4 and various operatic arias.

Parent's night out

The Family Connection and First Assembly of God will host a Parent's Night Out on Sat., Jan. 12 from 6 - 10 p.m. This is open to all children ages four through fifth grade. The cost is $10 for the first child and $5 for each additional child within a family. The evening will include dinner, games, activities and a movie. The event will take place at the First Assembly Family Life Center.

Classic Re-Runs open

Classic Re-Runs is a non profit clothes shop specializing in good quality, lightly worn clothes for all sizes. They also have household items, dishes and what-knots. All money is used exclusively for Lincoln County Citizens. Donations are tax deductible.

Classic Re-Runs is located at 108 Main Street, next door to China One. Stop by to check out their half-price sales and specials that change weekly.

Career Fair

A Career Fair will be held in the high school cafeteria on Jan. 14, 2008. The LCHS Career Fair is designed to provide information for students about careers that do not require a four year college degree. Local people, representing a wide variety of careers, will be available to talk individually with students and their parents about a variety of topics, including: responsibilities of the career, training required and growth opportunities within the field, employment opportunities, and how to prepare for the particular career while in high school.

Although the Career Fair is designed for high school students, it is free and open to the public.

Women's revival

First Baptist Church in Lincolnton will have a women's revival Jan. 15 - 17 at 7:30 p.m. nightly with different speakers. Come one, come all, let us have a Holy Ghost good time in the Lord.

Class of 88 to meet

The Class of 1988 will hold a planning session for their 20th reunion on Sat., Jan. 19, 1 p.m. at Papa's Pizza. If you would like more information please call Amy Danner Seymour at 706-359-7743.

Public hearing

Lincoln County Department of Public Safety, Office of Emergency Management will hold a public hearing Tues., Jan. 22 from 7 - 9 p.m. at The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., to review the Pre-Disaster Hazard Mitigation Plan and to receive public comments on the plan.

MLK observance

Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday observance will be held Sun., Jan. 20, 3 p.m. at the Lincoln County High School Auditorium. The observance is sponsored by TIA, Lincoln County NAACP, Lincoln County Government, and the City of Lincolnton.
