Dedication of new gym at rec complex set for Dec. 30
The new gymnasium at the Curry Colvin Recreation Complex will be named after Walker Norman, chairman of the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners, at a dedication ceremony set for Tuesday, December 30, beginning at 7 p.m. The new gymnasium at the Curry Colvin Recreation Complex will be named after Walker Norman, chairman of the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners, at a dedication ceremony set for Tuesday, December 30, beginning at 7 p.m.
The commissioners voted name the gym after Norman at their regular meeting held Thursday, December 11. The chairman will be leaving office December 31, 2008.
The 13,807-square-foot facility, which cost $1,227,000, was built using SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) funds.
Following the ribbon-cutting portion of the program, there will be an open house until 9 p.m., giving the public an opportunity to tour the county's newest asset. The gym's amenities include:
.. A regulation basketball/volleyball court, with a rubberized floor.
.. A fitness center, complete with treadmills, elliptical trainers, stationary bikes, and machine weights.
.. An indoor walking track.
.. A game room, containing pool tables and so forth.
.. A 12-station computer lab. .. A conference room. .. A full-service concession stand. .. Restrooms with showers. .. Plenty of storage space.
.. An office for the recreation department director.
The metal building features a splitfaced block front with a stucco and glass facade.
The public is encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served.
