JOHN WILLIAM POWELL SR. Mr. John William Powell Sr., 80, entered into rest on Thursday, November 27, 2008 at Doctors Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, at Platt's Belair Road Chapel with the Rev. Troy Pennington officiating. Burial was private.

Mr. Powell was an active owner of Powell Auctioneers and a member of Mann United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 205, the VFW Post 649, and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 10. He was retired from Atlanta Gas Light Company.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Eva I. Powell; sons, Bill Powell and wife, Pam of Evans, Ga. and Mark "Steve" Powell and wife, Diane of Lincolnton; his former wife of 32 years, Patricia Stone O'Neal; a stepson, Ricky Smith of Virginia; grandchildren, Shannon Holloway, Farrah Buki, and Jonothan Powell; stepgrandchildren, Jennifer and Rachel McCall, Ricky Smith, Kimberly Lively, Christi Price, Kia Meyer, Josh and Clay Kimbrell; and nine greatgrandchildren.
