Free flu vaccine offered to LCMS/HS students
      Did you know that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now recommends that all children 6 months to 18 years get vaccinated against the flu each year? While many young children get the flu vaccine with their other shots, middle and high school students are much less likely to be vaccinated.

Historical society to sponsor Tree of Remembrance
      The Lincoln County Historical Society is honored to sponsor the Tree of Remembrance for 2008. The lighting of the tree will take place on December 6th during the Holidays in Olde Lincoln Towne Festival and will remain lit throughout the Christmas Season. The tree is located at the intersection of Peachtree and Main Streets.

CCLC reports on Nov. meeting
      The Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County met at the public library November 20 at 6:30 p.m. President Al Bean opened the meeting. Vice president, Linda Burns greeted the new members that were present and encouraged everyone to vote on December 2 for the run-off for senator. Gerald Lawson gave the invocation.

LWREA visits new school site
      The Lincoln-Wilkes Retired Educators (LWREA) held its November meeting at the office of the Lincoln County Board of Education. Dr. Randall Edmunds, Superintendent of Schools, and Mr. Brian Campbell, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, did outstanding presentations on features of Lincoln County's new school, system-wide data, and current trends in technology.

Oxendine offers heating tips to Ga. residents
      With nighttime lows below freezing forecast for the rest of the week, Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John W. Oxendine wants to remind Georgians of some heating tips to help keep their homes safe this winter. "As temperatures go down, the number of home fires tends to go up," Oxendine said. "Please keep safety in mind while you're keeping warm.

LCES students issue invites for Thanksgiving
      In observance of Thanksgiving, we asked the fourth and fifth-graders at LCES to address the question, "If you could invite any one person to Thanksgiving dinner, who would it be and why?" The students' choices ranged from sports heroes to pop stars. Nevertheless, the predominant answers dealt with grandparents who had passed away.

Reading by lamplight
      Due to the bitter cold weather, "Reading Under the Stars" at LCES was changed to "Reading in the Gym." During the evening, volunteers from the community read books to the students, who were well prepared with scarves, blankets, and flashlights.
