Above, Marquis Parks closes in on the Charger quarterback. The Devil Defense recorded its second playoff shutout last Friday.
The Lincoln County High School Red Devils played in round two of the Georgia High School Association Playoffs on Friday, November 23, and beat the Eagles Landing Christian Academy Chargers 7-0 to advance to round three.

The Devils won the coin toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff to start the game on the cold Friday night. The Devils fielded the ball at the 15-yard line and fumbled but ultimately moved the ball to the 42-yard line. Bo Reed put the ball in A.G. Middlebrooks's hands on the first play from scrimmage. He followed up with a pass that gained the first down. Reed moved the ball across the ELCA 40-yard line to round out the set. Middlebrooks caught a pass and took the ball inside the 10-yard line before a penalty brought the ball back. The Devils still moved the ball for the first down. Jafabian Green moved the ball ten more yards to the ELCA 28-yard line on the next snap. The Devils were on the 26-yard-line when Wilkes Goolsby took a pass on the 23-yard line. At this point, the Devils had controlled the ball for half of the quarter. A pass from Reed to Stacy McClendon was the last offensive push of the drive. Vance Tarver came onto the field for a 40-yard field goal attempt which hit the cross bar and failed to score.

A.G. MIDDLEBROOKS' 59-YARD TOUCHDOWN WAS LINCOLN'S ONLY SCORE The Red Devil win over Eagles Landing was a defensive battle from start to finish.
The Chargers' drive began with a disputable 15-yard penalty against the Red Devils. The Devils recovered a fumble against the Chargers on the only play of the drive. Daniel Morris took the ball two yards on the first play of the Red Devils' second drive. A pass to McClendon was intercepted by a Charger near the five-yard line. Major Elam was key to stopping the next play and making a loss for the Chargers. The Chargers took a beating from DeTravis Hearst on the next play, nearly giving the Devils a safety. The drive ultimately ended with a kick from the Chargers' one-yard line. Alex Ellis fielded the ball on the 48-yard line and the drive began on the 50-yard line. The quarter ended with the Chargers holding the ball on their own 17-yard line.

Green intercepted the first pass of the second quarter. The Devils promptly fumbled the ball away to ELCA, who was unable to make any headway until a pass moved the ball accross midfield for ten seconds until they were back in their own territory before they passed the ball to the Devils' 30-yard line.

The Eagles lost the ball when they kicked it away to the Devils' two-yard line. Middlebrooks moved the ball to within a yard of the first down on one play. Tavious McGahee gained the Devils a first down on the following play. The following push caused a first down at the 26-yard line. Middlebrooks broke out for a 15-yard gain the next time the ball was snapped.

Middlebrooks took off for a 59- yard touchdown run to end the 98- yard drive. After Tarver's PAT kick, the score was 7-0, where it stayed until the end of the half.

An Unknown author once said that "it doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning is winning." This was certainly the case with the Red Devils, who won this game with a strong defense and no scores in the second half. Eagle's Landing was unable to make any headway in the second half except for one drive which moved to the Devils' six-yard line. Ellis made an impressive move when he recovered a Charger fumble and returned it all the way to the ELCA 40-yard line, preventing a frighteningly close touchdown.

With less than two minutes left in the game, the Defense again pulled off a strong feat when they held the Chargers at bay well within the Red Devils' territory. The weather was cold, but the Devils were on fire for this game.

This week's game will be held at Buddy Bufford Stadium against Wilcox. The visiting team is undefeated, so come out and support our home team in this key playoff game at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 28. Because this is a round 3 playoff game, the Georgia High School Association requires the admission price to be $10.
