LCHS students F.O.R.K.ed for first nine weeks
Last year the LCHS Academic Booster Club started a program called F.O.R.K., an acronym for Focus On Raising Knowledge. This program recognizes students who have done something noteworthy in the previous nine weeks. At the end of each grading period, teachers F.O.R.K. students for a variety of reasons including perfect attendance, a good attitude, marked improvement in grades, highest average in the class, being a good sport, and the list goes on. Students can turn their F.O.R.K. cards in for an ice cream during lunch.
Students F.O.R.K.ed for the first nine weeks were D.J. Bentley, Josh Bessinger, Audra Bradford, Patrick Brittain, Amanda Broom, T.J. Carani, Chris Carter, Annah Crook, Emily Diamond, Chelsea Duncan, Connor Eades, Ashley Ebert, Amanda Gay, Hannah Hollimon, Destiny Jones, Jessica Love, Elana Mansion, Bianca Marshall, Daniel McAlister, Matessia Murray, Dylan Norman, Donna Palmer, Desmond Parks, Krishna Patel, Kelliyauna Perrin, Patricia Plenikowski, Kathryn Poss, Sherylress Rand, Bo Reed, Jennifer Reid, Ashley Rivera, Dominik Roth, Shannon Roye, Kyle Rumple, Joey Schaefing, Amanda Sims, Ashley Stanley (forked by three teachers), Kaitlyn Tate and Donquita Williams.
In addition to the F.O.R.K. cards the club provides treats for students before each nine week grading period encouraging them to study and do their best. They also provide awards for high school students at the Annual Academic Awards Night held each spring.
The LCHS Academic Booster Club is funded by membership dues, fund raisers and donations. They presently have 71 members. Officers for the 2008-2009 school year are Gail Remsen, President; Marcia Kirkland, Vice- President; Janet Dukes, Secretary; and Kathy Jones, Treasurer.
