The Georgia Supreme Court denied a Writ of Certiorari in the case involving a petition for declaratory judgment relief, filed against Sheriff Gerald Lawson by the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners on February 16, 2007.

Handed down by the high court on Monday, October 27, the Writ reflects the court's decision not to review the case.

The petition for declaratory judgment centered around whether it was lawful for the sheriff to keep the proceeds from the inmate telephone system in an account separate from the county's General Fund.

Previously, Superior Court Judge T. Penn McWhorter ruled in favor of the county; his ruling was later upheld by the Georgia Court of Appeals.
