Dear Hearts and Gentle People

Thank God, in fifteen days the election will be history!

I am so very tired of it.

I'm tired of hearing about the candidates. I'm tired of talking about the candidates.

I'm tired of their slinging mud at each other and I'm tired of being in the crossfire when they do it.

I'm tired of politics that turn friends into enemies and nice people into jerks.

I'm tired of polls and surveys.

I'm tired of political signs on every corner.

I'm tired of vague answers to complex questions.

I'm tired of people who are adamant about voting for their candidate but couldn't tell you why if their lives depended on it.

I'm tired of the word "maverick" and I'm tired of the word "change."

I'm tired of the biased left-winged media.

I'm tired of Lincoln County Republicans and Democrats acting like little children duking it out on the playground.

I'm tired of any politician who condones murdering thousands upon thousands of unborn children every day.

I'm tired of candidates who make promises they have no intention of keeping.

I'm tired of voter fraud and of allowing dead people and convicted felons to vote.

I'm tired of newspaper forums that allow anonymous posters to rip people's reputations to shreds.

I'm tired of politicians who vow to reduce military spending when, were not for the support, monetarily and otherwise, of our soldiers, those same politicians wouldn't have to freedom to "vow" anything.

I'm tired of television and movie personalities who think they are qualified to make political judgment calls just because they are celebrities. And I'm tired of ordinary people who listen to them.

I'm tired of the way people are obsessing over the Presidential candidates as if one were the Anti-Christ and the other was the Messiah.

And I'm really, really tired of Oprah.

I will vote. I will vote my conscience and I don't give a frog's fanny what anybody thinks about my choices.

I will wear a button on my lapel on Election Day if I please and if you don't like it, get your own button.

I love this po-dunk little town where I was raised and all the dear hearts and gentle people who live in it, red and yellow, black and white.

Now, having gotten all of that off my chest let me say I'm still proud to be an American. I still place my hand over my heart when I pledge the flag or sing the National Anthem. And, yes, I cry when I hear America the Beautiful.

I'm filled with pride and gratefulness each time I see a man or woman in a military uniform.

I'm fairly certain that the world will not end as a result of who wins the national or the local elections and I'm tired of folks acting like it will.

I'm certain, too, that whoever wins the presidential election will not thwart God's ultimate plan for His people or our nation.

I believe the words found in 2 Chronicles 7:14: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Remember the words of Abraham Lincoln: "Intelligence, patriotism, Christianity, and a firm reliance on Him, who has never yet forsaken this favored land, are still competent to adjust, in the best way, all our present difficulty."

There now, I feel better. Y'all have a great day. I think I'll go Christmas shopping.
