Community Calendar

Board of elections meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, Ga. Any changes to the scheduled dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

Dinner served

Dinner served at American Legion Post 194 every Wed. night at 6:30 p.m. and Fri. at 7 p.m. Wednesday's menu changes weekly. Every Friday is steak night. A large variety salad bar, shrimp cocktail, baked potato, bread, dessert and ice tea are included with steak. Come out and join us for a delicious meal.

Donations welcomed

The Lincoln County Food Pantry welcomes contributions. Your donations are tax deductible. You may mail your contributions to: The Lincoln County Food Pantry, P.O. Box 473, Lincolnton, GA 30817. Thank you for your support.

Miss LCHS pageant

The Miss LCHS pageant will be Dec. 4 in the LCHS Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Brad Means will be the Emcee. The $40 entry fee and form deadline is noon, Nov. 20. Holiday parade

Holidays in Olde Lincoln Towne, hosted by the Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce will be held Dec. 6, 2008, 1 - 10 p.m. Extended shopping hours; live entertainment - all day; Holiday Parade - 4:30 p.m.; tree lighting and carols - 7 p.m.; street dance - 8 p.m.; numerous craft and food vendors; children's rides and games. Fun for all ages!!

Benefit trail ride

A Bikers & Cowboys Benefit Poker Run & Trail Ride for Gena Tankersley Freeman will be held Sat., Nov. 8 at Bussey Point in Lincolnton. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Cost is $20 per rider.

Tickets for chicken plates that will be available for pick up at Bussey Point during the run and ride, are on sale now for $7 each and can be purchased at Fast Times, NAPA Auto Parts, R&W, B & J Appliances and Spratlin Hardware now until Nov. 3.

Taking yearbook orders

Parents can now order their copy of Panorama, the school yearbook, from home also. Order forms are being mailed to all students so they can order their copy by calling 1-866- 282-1516 or online at jostensyear books.com. Most major credit cards are accepted or you may mail your order with your check.

All proceeds will go to the yearbook staff and its expenses. You may contact the yearbook staff with questions by calling 706-359-3121 between 11:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Remember, the 2009 Panorama will be the first all-color yearbook and will come with a DVD of pictures capturing the highlights of this school year. Deadline to order is Nov. 11.

GED/Adult classes

Augusta Technical College and Lincoln County Family Connection are offering GED/Adult Literacy classes on Mon., Tues., and Thurs. from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Wed., from 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. For more information, please call 706-359-3425 or 706-359-5769.

Assessors meetings

The Lincoln County Board of Tax Assessors will hold its meeting at 4 p.m., in the Tax Assessor's office at 182 Humphrey St. Upcoming monthly meeting dates include: October 21, November 18, December 16.

Support group meeting

Is Tourette's Syndrome more than you can handle? Are you tired and alone? Mothers, fathers, and grandparents of children with Tourette's Syndrome are invited to attend support group meetings at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 8 at the Vineyard Church of Augusta, 3126 Parrish Road, Augusta Ga. Church anniversary

Mt. Zion Baptist Church will celebrate its 137 anniversary Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. Guest speaker will be Rev. Larry Norman, pastor of Flint Hill Baptist Church, Washington, Ga. His church will be in charge of the services. Brother Drake will be the MC. Rev. Robert L. Crawford is pastor.

Fall revival

White Rock Baptist Church will host its annual Fall Revival beginning Mon., Oct. 27 - Wed., Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. nightly. Rev. F. C. Henderson, pastor of Poplar Spring Baptist Church, Thomson, Ga., will be bringing the soul-saving, soul-reviving message.

The public is invited. Rev. Seymore Harrison, Sr., is pastor.

Musical program

First Baptist Church will have a musical program Nov. 1 at 5:30 p.m. with a lot of good singing. The public is invited.

Men's March for Christ

First Baptist Church will have a Men's March for Christ Service Oct. 26 at 5:30 p.m. Deacon Emmanuel Acree of Bookers Chapel Church will be the guest speaker. Music will be rendered. The public is invited.

Bingo is Friday

Bingo is played at the American Legion Post 194, Lincolnton, Georgia, every Friday at 7:30 p.m. A snack bar is operated by the Ladies Auxiliary available during bingo. For more information, contact (706) 359-3445.

Pastor's anniversary

The Youth Ministry of First Baptist Church of Lincolnton will hold a Pre- Pastor's Anniversary Oct. 27-31 at 7:30 p.m. with different speakers each night.

Planning meetings

The Lincoln County Planning Commission will hold all its regularly scheduled meetings in the Planning and Zoning Conference Room located at 107 Perryman Avenue unless otherwise advertised. The meeting dates are:: Nov. 10 and Dec. 8.

Headquarters open

The Republican Headquarters (old Badcock building) will be open to the citizens of Lincoln County from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Thursdays and 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Saturdays.

Flu vaccine avail

Flu vaccine is now available at the Lincoln County Health Dept. Mon. - Fri., 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. The charge is $25 cash, Medicare Part B or Medicaid. If you will be using your Medicare or Medicaid card for your method of payment and you have a primary insurance plan, please be prepared to present both cards.

Pastor's anniversary

First Baptist Church will celebrate its pastor, Dennis J. Quinn's 18th anniversary on Nov. 2 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Roscoe Perry and First Mount Carmel Baptist Church of Appling, Ga., will be in charge of services.

Power wheelchairs

The Senior Wheels USA Program makes available power wheelchairs to senior citizens and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify.

The power wheelchairs are provided to those who can no longer walk safely, nor self-propel a manual wheelchair, and who meet the additional guidelines of the program.

Legal rights workshop

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) will sponsor a Free Legal Rights Workshop on Fri., Nov. 7 at The Lincoln County Senior Center, 160 May Avenue, Lincolnton. The workshop will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. Lunch will be provided.

Get legal help and learn about your rights on the following featured topics: elder abuse - nursing home and personal care home; public benefits - Social Security and SSI; and consumer - garnishment and foreclosure protection.

Pioneer Day Nov. 22

Pioneer Day at the Historical Park is November 22. Ready for a hot apple fritter and a cup of coffee? It's that time again, well almost.

Pioneer Day 2008 planning has begun. Last year 3,000 people came to Lincolnton for a day of good clean family fun and this year it is going to be even bigger. Space is limited for vendors. Do you have historical skill or craft that you'd like to share? Chair caning, soap making, basket weaving, bee keeping, pottery, corn shuck dolls or the like? This year The Historical Society is going to showcase some of Lincoln County's best kept secrets in these areas.

Stay tuned to The Lincoln Journal for details. And of course, there will be free cotton candy for children of all ages.

Tignall fall festival

The 7th Annual I'd Rather Be in Tignall Fall Festival will be held Sat., Nov. 1, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Independence St. and the Old Tignall School grounds with fun and games for all the family. Proceeds from the event will be used to renovate the old Tignall Lunchroom, Gym and the upkeep of the grounds. Admission is free.

Afternoon of songs

White Rock Baptist Church Choirs will host an afternoon of songs on Sun., Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. Featured will be the Lincoln County Mass, First Mt. Carmel Sanctuary Choir, Macedonia Male Choir of Martinez, Newberry Male Choir, and more.

Veterans Day prog.

With Christmas right around the corner, Huddle House is gearing up for another successful year of Secret Santa. You may begin dropping off your toys for children early this year. For every new, unwrapped toy valued at $25 or more, the child will also receive a free meal.

Male chorus to perform

Newberry Missionary Baptist Mass Choir will feature St. Anthony Baptist Church Male Chorus, Brooklyn, N.Y. on Sat., Nov. 8, 5 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church.

St. Anthony Baptist Church will be in charge of worship services at Newberry Missionary Baptist Church on Sun., Nov. 9 at 9:15 a.m.

The 2008-2009 Migratory Bird Hunting & Conservation Stamp is available now at the Lincolnton Post Office. The cost of the stamp is $15.

Concert Nov. 22

A Blues-Be-Bop-Funk-Rock-Soul- Latin and Swing Program by the Augusta State University Conservatory Jazz Band will be held Sat., Nov. 22, 7:30 p.m. at Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre. Admission is free.

Hallelujah for Health

The CSRA Partnership for Community Health and the Richmond County Medical Society Project Access are sponsoring the 11th Annual "Hallelujah for Health" Benefit Concert Thurs., Oct. 30, 7 p.m. at Paine College, Gilbert-Lambuth Chapel on Druid Park Ave.

Area choirs will entertain through song and praise. Admission is free.

The partnership has been instrumental in the development and/or operations of three clinics, who serve the residents of the CSRA and especially the under and uninsured. They also sponsor programs for youth, at risk adults and eldercare.

Homecoming, revival

Midway United Methodist Church will hold Homecoming/Revival services Oct. 26. All members, former members, former scholars at Midway School and former pastors of the church are invited.
