Albert Gunby receives Georgia Power grant
      Albert Gunby, a math teacher at Thomson Middle School, was among 35 of Georgia's best and brightest new teachers to receive a New Teacher Assistance Grant from Georgia Power. Kevin Fletcher, Georgia Power's vice president of Community and Economic Development, presented the teachers with the grants at an awards luncheon September 13 at the company's headquarters in Atlanta.

      Brandon Levi Bramlett, son of Stacey and Leigh Bramlett, celebrated his first birthday on Sunday, September 21, 2008 at his home in Lincolnton. The theme of the party was "Little Prince" with Brandon wearing a birthday prince crown presented by his grandmother and aunt.

Reed celebrates fourth birthday with party Sept. 27
      Elizabeth Ann Reed, daughter of Haili Reed, celebrated her fourth birthday on September 27, 2008. The theme for her party was her favorite star and television show Hannah Montana! She and her friends enjoyed singing and dancing on a real stage that a friend made just for her.

It runs in the family
     Competing in the Jacksonville Marine Corps 1/2 Marathon in Jacksonville, Florida (13.1 miles) on Saturday, October 4, were (L-r): Savannah Collins, LeighAnne C. Hersey, Emma Collins, and Emmye Collins. The race course took them through downtown Jacksonville, across the St. Johns River and back, and through the historic district.

      The American Cancer Society and McDuffie County Regional Medical Center have partnered to offer "Look Good….Feel Better" sessions, a free, hands-on group workshop dedicated to helping female cancer patients cope with and combat the appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

     Students in Lisa Bentley's seventh-grade life science classes created edible cell models as part of their study on cell structures and functions. JACKSON ALEXANDER BROOKS
      Shaun and Laura Brooks of Grovetown are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Jackson Alexander, born August 20, 2008 at Trinity Hospital in Augusta. Jackson made his debut at 5:14 p.m. and weighed eight pounds, two ounces and was twenty-one and one-half inches long.
