SBA announces disaster loans available in Georgia
      The U.S. Small Business Administration announced recently that federal economic injury disaster loans are available to small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives and most private, non-profit organizations of all sizes located in the State of Georgia as a result of drought and excessive heat that occurred on January 1, 2008 and continuing.

Kids to be shot for supplement at clubhouse
      In keeping with the spirit of Christmas, area children will once again be featured in "Christmas Kids and Greetings," an annual supplement to The Lincoln Journal. This year, a photographer from Interpress Studios in Snellville, Georgia, will be at the Lincolnton Clubhouse Tuesday, October 21, through Thursday, October 23, to take the children's pictures.

      Charlotte Ritchie will be in concert at First Assembly of God on Sun., Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. Charlotte traveled for many years with Jeff and Sheri Easter before leaving the group in March to embark upon new endeavors including solo concert events and spending time with family.

Georgia leaf color change peaks in early November
      Kim Coder's been searching for the "Holy Grail" of trees his whole life. The professor of tree biology at the University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources has come close just once to finding it. That close call was a tree that had been damaged by chemicals. Even then, it wasn't the real color he was looking for.

Cyclists raise money for their home
     Six young men from the Paul Anderson Youth Home as well as several other hardy souls participated in a 500-mile bike ride to raise money and awareness for their "home." Although this is the third annual ride, it marks the first time the cyclists have passed through Lincolnton. Among the other towns visited were Atlanta, Rome, Chatsworth, Tallulah Falls, Elberton, and Augusta. The trip began and ended in Vidalia.

Potential Jurors selected for criminal trial week
      The Lincoln County Superior Court will hear criminal cases beginning Monday, October 20, at the Lincoln County Courthouse. Judge Harold A. Hinesley is scheduled to preside over the proceedings. According to Superior Court Clerk Bruce Beggs, jurors are to report to the courtroom on the second floor of the courthouse at 9 a.m.
