Softball team advances to sectional playoffs in Dublin

The LCHS Softball Team will be participating in the sectional playoffs for the first time since the team moved to fast pitch.

The double elimination tournament is set for Friday and Saturday, October 17 and 18, in Dublin. The top four teams will advance on to the state tournament.

"Our team has come along way," said Coach Mallory Thigpen. "Last year, we were 2-8, and this year, we are 9-6. The girls worked hard last year and over the summer, and it is finally paying off. "I cannot tell them how proud I am of them," she continued. "They have exceeded my expectations. We have had some young players step up and make big plays and clutch hits. Also, the seniors have had a huge impact on our team, not just by the way they play but by their leadership." The other 4-A teams headed to sectionals are GMC, Washington- Wilkes, and Glascock County. Those who want to see the Lady Devils play without having to drive to Dublin may attend the team's last home game on Wednesday, October 8, at 5 p.m. at the Curry Colvin Recreation Complex. The girls will face Glascock County to determine the seeding at the sectional tournament.

The community is heartily encouraged to come out and support the Lady Devils.

The team is comprised of Allie Clark, Latoya Harris, Kerri Seymour, Montana Dawkins, Jessie Boswell, Taylor Fernandes, Amberly Barksdale, Jade Deason, Ashleigh Bussey, Liz Dunaway, Bethany Beggs, and Elana Mansion.

David Fernandes serves as the assistant coach for the team.
