C.J. Goldman takes top honors at Perry steer and heifer show
C.J. Goldman exhibited the Grand Champion Chi-Influence Steer at the Georgia National Fair Steer & Heifer Show held Thursday, October 2, through Sunday, October 5, in Perry. Goldman's steer also won fourth overall at the show, and his Maine Anjou steer was named reserve champion for the breed. Pictured with the young 4- Her is his father, Chris Goldman. The Lincoln County 4-H Livestock Show Team turned in an excellent performance at the Georgia National Fair Steer & Heifer Show held Thursday, October 2, through Sunday, October 5, in Perry.
Over 250 steers and 150 heifers were registered to take part in the fair, which celebrated its 19th anniversary this year.
"The Junior Livestock Show is the highlight of the show season for our exhibitors as well as the many fair goers from around the state," said Monte Stephens, county extension agent for 4-H and agriculture.
He went on to say that this year's show brought out the best in Lincoln County's livestock project participants. "The members of the Lincoln County 4-H Livestock Show Team once again proved that they are head and shoulders above the rest."
During the steer show, a familiar name was called quite often and for good reason. C.J. Goldman and his steer, Rellik, walked away with the Grand Champion Chi-Influence Steer award. Another of his steers was named the Reserve Champion Maine Anjou Steer.
Moreover, in the competition for overall champion, Goldman's Chi- Influence steer captured fourth-place honors, an amazing achievement by any standard.
In his comments, Stephens again commended Goldman and all of the Lincoln County class winners and participants for a job well done.
"Hats off to all of our showmen for doing a fine job exhibiting their steers and heifers in both the weight and showmanship classes," said the county agent. "I would also like to thank our parents and volunteer leaders. Without them, none of this would have been possible."
