Seventeen volunteers from the Thurmond Lake Sail & Power Squadron joined in a flotilla of boats down Thurmond Lake to the National Guard Training Site just south of Plum Branch, S.C. on Saturday, August 30th. The Training Site was the location of the "Wounded Soldiers Family Retreat" for the wounded members and families of the South Carolina National Guard.

Some 30 National Guard and fam- ily members were taken for a 25 mile site seeing tour on the lake by the power squadron volunteers. Even with the extremely low water level of the lake, the retreat attendees were amazed and thrilled by the beauty of Thurmond Lake. Many remarked how they wished they could stay on the water all day.

According to Mickey Basch, Executive Officer of the Power Squadron and coordinator for the volunteers, it was an honor for the squadron to be invited to participate in the retreat. It was also an opportunity for the volunteers to show their appreciation and respect for the soldiers who fought, were wounded or died in the wars to defeat terrorism in the world.
