Golf cart, car accident sends five to hospital
Five were sent to the hospital when a car collided with a golf cart in front of St. Paul United Methodist Church on the Thomson Highway (Highway 43).
The accident occurred at 11:43 a.m. Saturday, September 13.
According a report issued by the Georgia State Patrol, the golf cart was exiting a private drive and attempting to cross Highway 43 when it was hit by Steven Fendley, 29, of Greenwood, South Carolina, who was traveling south in a 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
As Fendley topped the crest of the hill in front of the church, he saw the golf cart pulling onto the roadway but could not stop in time and struck the cart.
Both vehicles rotated counterclockwise and came to rest facing north. In the golf cart were Brittney Johnson, 25, of Warrenton, and four juveniles. It is unclear as to who was driving.
All five were transported by Lincoln County EMS to MCG for treatment. Three have been released, and two are still hospitalized. The driver was uninjured.
