Gunby returning home
     SSG Christopher Gunby will be cutting his third deployment (second to Iraq, first to Afghanistan) short this time because the Department of the Army has hand picked him to serve as a US Army Recruiter. SSG Gunby will be reporting to Recruiter School at Ft Jackson, SC in early fall of this year. He is currently serving in Afganistan with 101st Division as the Class III NCOIC of Bagram Afganistan. Stateside he is stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah Ga where his wife, Almeisha and daughter, Madison are awaiting his safe return.

Sarah Carpenter celebrates third birthday with pizza party
      Sarah Carpenter turned three on August 1, 2008. She celebrated her third birthday on two occasions. Sarah had a "Royal" party at Papa's Pizza on Saturday, August 2. The theme was Disney Princess. Seventeen guests joined her in celebrating this "grand" event.

Dukes, Dent namd to Dean's List at UGA for summer
      The University of Georgia has announced that Janelle Ivey Dukes, a freshman and Clayton Hunt Dent, a junior, was named to the Dean's List for summer semester. Students named to the Dean's List have earned a 3.5 grade point average or higher out of a possible 4.0 and have taken at least 14 credit hours and received no unsatisfactory or incomplete grades.

     Jeannette and Fremon Moragne joined Ocean View Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach, S.C., on a tour of the Black Hills of South Dakota visiting Mount Rushmore, the Badlands, Crazy Horse Memorial, Gateway to the West Arch at St. Louis, Mo., and other points of interest. They always take time to enjoy The Lincoln Journal.

      Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Griffith are proud to announce the birth of their son, Charlie Banks, born July 30, 2008 at Trinity Hospital. Tyeshia Crew spends summer volunteering at Doctor's Hosp.
      Tyeshia Crew, a junior at Lincoln County High School, did volunteer service this summer from June 4 to August 1, at Doctor's Hospital in Augusta, Ga. She participated in The Student Connection which is a summer volunteer program at Doctor's for youth ages 14 - 17.

Smith wins big
     Jessica Smith, 26, of Lincolnton recently won $100,000 playing The Georgia Lottery's Millionaire Mania instant game. The mother of three purchased the winning ticket at Kelly's Mini Mart on Washington Road in Augusta. Smith, who is a saleswoman at Aaron Rents, Inc., plans to use the money to buy a new house for her mother.
