Community Calendar

Board of elections meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, Ga. Any changes to the scheduled dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

Dinner served

Dinner served at American Legion Post 194 every Wed. night at 6:30 p.m. and Fri. at 7 p.m. Wednesday's menu changes weekly. Every Friday is steak night. A large variety salad bar, shrimp cocktail, baked potato, bread, dessert and ice tea are included with steak. Come out and join us for a delicious meal.

Donations welcomed

The Lincoln County Food Pantry welcomes contributions. Your donations are tax deductible. You may mail your contributions to: The Lincoln County Food Pantry, P.O. Box 473, Lincolnton, GA 30817. Thank you for your support.

Vendors wanted

Elijah Clark is now accepting applications for vendors and crafters for the Elijah Clark's Bluegrass Festival Sept. 19-21. Applications may be picked up at the park office or call 706-359-3458. Deadline for applications is Aug. 22.

Golf tourney

Mark your calendars. The Charlie Norwood Scholarship Golf Tournament will be Oct. 4, 2008 at Golf de L. The scholarship is awarded annually to a Lincoln County High School Senior. The 2008 recipient was Kitty Ball, a new cadet at West Point. Details of the tournament and the scholarship essay topic will be published in The Lincoln Journal.

Choir anniversary

Come out and help us celebrate the 10th Choir Anniversary of the Robert Lee Beard Male Chorus. It will be held at 6 p.m., on August 16, at the First Baptist Church in Lincolnton. Rev. Dennis Joe Quinn, Pastor.

Revival at Mulberry

Mulberry C.M.E. Church will host revival services Aug. 18 - 20 beginning at 7 p.m. nightly. Guest ministers will be Elder Ronzell Maness - Aug. 18; Rev. Charles Henderson - Aug. 19; and Rev. Paul W. Gardner, Sr. - Aug. 20.

Homecoming will be held Sun., Aug. 24 with Sunday School beginning at 12:30 p.m. and Homecoming services at 2:30 p.m. with guest minister Rev. Reginald Jones and Sharon Baptist Church of Augusta, Ga. Everyone is invited. Rev. George Glenn is pastor.

Info. needed

Archivists are seeking officers, enlisted men, WACs, cadets, britons, civilians and/or their families and friends who are stationed at Cochran Field, or lived in Macon, Georgia during WWII, who would be willing to contribute artifacts, photos, articles, and stories pertaining to their experience with the men and women working there.

Family reunion

The Willingham and Barksdale Family Reunion will kick off on Fri. night, Aug. 29 at 8 p.m. with an Olde Skool Party in Winfield, Ga. Please see family members for your ticket and come have some fun!

At the residence of Derrick and D'metric Barksdale, 4416 Thomson Hwy., will be the fish fry on Sat., Aug. 30 beginning at 7 p.m. and on Sun., Aug. 31 beginning at 3 p.m. will be the dinner. All families and friends are invited to come and have a great time!

Memorial service

Park Grove Church invites everyone to attend its Memorial Service Program Aug. 24 at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be Evangelist Penny Quinn of First Baptist Church. Pastor, Tonia Cody.

Consignors wanted

Lincolnton United Methodist Church is seeking consignors for its first annual Fall Kids Pass it On Consignment Sale to be held at the church on September 5 - 6. Consignors receive 60% of the amount sold while the church receives 40% to go back into local missions.

Items to be consigned are children's clothes (newborn to size 20), children's shoes, maternity clothes, strollers, toys, books, etc.

If you are interested in being a consignor, call the church office at (706) 359-4339, Amberly Bentley at (706) 359-4242, or Ginger Dawkins at (706) 359-6968 for more details. The church will have consignor packets available with detailed information to those who sign up. Deadline for signing up will be August 29, 2008.

Doll making at park

Three sessions of cornhusk doll making will be held at Elijah Clark State Park on Sat., Aug. 16 at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m.

In 1780, Hannah Clark's garden provided her family's food, clothing, home furnishings, and toys. Make your own dolls the way the pioneers did - from corn husks.

A small donation for supplies will be appreciated. Sheryl Silva, leader.

Prayer walk Aug. 14

The Lincoln County Ministerial Association has organized a prayer walk for the Lincoln County schools on Thurs., Aug. 14 at 7 p.m.

The high school, middle school, and elementary school will each have their own prayer walk. Please join us at the school of your choice as we pray for our students, their parents, our teachers, and the entire school system.

CCLC to meet

The Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County will meet Thurs., Aug. 21, 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln County Public Library. The speaker will be AARP Regional Leader for Dist. 6, Stella H. Nunnally. The topic will be House Bill 130, Credit Freeze "laws."

Everyone is welcome to come and be a part of the CCLC.

Council meeting

The School Council for the LCHS will meet Tues., Aug. 26 at 7:15 a.m. in the media center. Any interested parents are welcome to attend.

Reese reunion

The Reese Reunion will be held at lunch on Sun., Aug. 24 at First Assembly of God Church on Thomson Hwy. The barbecue and hash will be provided. Everyone is asked to bring side dishes, desserts and tea. Contact Russell Reese or Jamie Cox for more information.

Must be immunized

Rising sixth-graders need to make sure they have the required immunizations prior to the start of the school year. For more information, contact your local physician or the Lincoln County Health Department.

Women's retreat

Lincoln County Christian Women's Retreat at Camp Daniel Marshall Nov. 7-9, 2008. Deadline for registration is Oct. 6, 2008. Cost - $65. Any questions, contact Sheila Davis at 359- 3206. Everyone is invited!

Smith at park

Join Gerald Smith at Elijah Clark State Park on Sat., Aug. 23 to learn how the colonial army doctors treated patients with medicines available at the time. Take home a herb doctor's "recipe" for various aliments and their cures, and learn what medicines are available from our own herb garden. Free with your $3 park pass.

Planning breakfast

Mulberry C.M.E. Church will host a Planning Breakfast on Sept. 13 at the church beginning at 9 a.m. All officers and concerned members are asked to be present to schedule a calendar of events for 2008-2009 conference year. Rev. George Glenn is pastor.

Manna van Aug. 26

The Manna van will be at the Lincoln County Senior Center Aug. 26 at 10:30 p.m. for seniors 60 and older. Free fruits and vegetables!

You will need to bring your ID, if you are picking up for someone else, you will need to bring their ID.

Season tickets

Reserved seats for the 2008 Red Devil football season will be on sale at the middle/high school ticket window beginning Mon., Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. If you have purchased season tickets in the past your seats will be held until Fri., Aug. 22, at which time they will be released to those on the waiting list. Please notify Nancy Hardeman at 706-359- 3121 if you do not wish to purchase your seats. The cost is $40 for the season.

Homecoming Aug. 17

New Tabernacle Baptist Church will celebrate its Annual Homecoming on the third Sunday, August 17th at 10 a.m.

A three night revival will follow that week (Aug. 18-20) at 7:30 p.m. nightly with Rev. Abraham Mosley of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Athens. Rev. Matthew Harden is pastor.

LWREA to meet

The Lincoln-Wilkes Retired Educator (LWREA) will have its executive meeting Thurs., Aug. 14, 11 a.m. at the Lincoln County Public Library.

All retired educators are encouraged to attend. Coleman Kennedy is president of LWREA.

Boosters to meet

The Lincoln County Athletic Booster Club will meet Mon., Aug. 25, 7:30 p.m. at the LCHS Weight Room. Homemade ice cream will be served.

Auxiliary to meet

The Ladies Auxiliary Unit 194 will hold its monthly meeting Thurs., Aug. 14, 7:30 p.m. at the post home. All members are encouraged to attend and new members are welcome.

Assessors meetings

The Lincoln County Board of Tax Assessors will hold its meeting at 4 p.m., in the Tax Assessor's office at 182 Humphrey St. Upcoming monthly meeting dates include: August 19, September 16, October 21, November 18, December 16.

TIA Helping Hand

The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/ 50.

Summer revival

Newberry Missionary Baptist Church will hold its annual summer revival Mon. - Thurs., Aug. 11 - 14, beginning at 7 p.m. nightly.

Guest minister will be Rev. Daniel Ramsey, pastor of Smith Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Willie J. White is pastor.

Fund set up

A fund has been established at Farmers State Bank for Gena Tankersley Freeman. Gena is recovering from a recent stroke.

GED/Adult classes

Augusta Technical College and Lincoln County Family Connection are offering GED/Adult Literacy classes on Mon., Tues., and Thurs. from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Wed., from 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. For more information, please call 706-359-3425 or 706-359-5769.

Bingo is Friday

Bingo is played at the American Legion Post 194, Lincolnton, Georgia, every Friday at 7:30 p.m. A snack bar is operated by the Ladies Auxiliary available during bingo. For more information, contact (706) 359-3445.

Planning meetings

The Lincoln County Planning Commission will hold all its regularly scheduled meetings in the Planning and Zoning Conference Room located at 107 Perryman Avenue unless otherwise advertised. The meeting dates are:; Aug. 11; Sept. 8; Oct. 6; Nov. 10; Dec. 8.

Labor Day Fair

Taliaferro's 22nd Annual Arts & Crafts Labor Day Fair will be held Mon., Sept. 1 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. in Crawfordville, Ga.

Crawfordville is located two miles off I-20 at Exit 148. Admission is free.

District meeting

The 10th District Congress of Christian Educators will be held at Beulah Grove Baptist Church, located at 1434 Poplar Street, Augusta, Ga., on Sat., Aug. 23. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Walker reunion

The annual Walker reunion for the descendants of Daniel Lumpkin Walker and connected families will be held at Fishing Creek Baptist Church on Sun., Aug. 17. A covered dish dinner will be served at 1 p.m. Please bring your favorite dishes to share and also any old photos or albums to put on display. Group photos will be taken for insertion in the December issue of the newsletter.

Miss LCHS pageant

The Miss LCHS pageant will be held Thursday, Sept 11th in the LCHS auditorium at 7:30 pm. Entry forms can be picked up from Mrs. Dukes or the LCHS high school office. Registration is $40 due by Sept 3rd. The pageant is being sponsored by Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).

Reese reunion

The family of Ross and Eunice Reese would like to invite everyone to the Reese Family Singing on Sat., Aug. 23, 7 p.m., at First Assembly of God Church on Thomson Hwy. The program will consist of a 40-voice choir, soloists, trios, talented musicians etc., all within one family! Please come and bring a friend!
