Dr. William F. Dawkins
DR. WILLIAM F. DAWKINS Dr. William Floyd "Bill" Dawkins, 61 of Dalton, Georgia entered into rest Friday, July 25, 2008 at University Hospital, Augusta, Ga.
Cryptside services were held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, at Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery in Lincolnton with Rev. Bill Boyd officiating.
A memorial service is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Dalton, Ga. with Rev. Dean Taylor officiating.
Dr. Dawkins, son of the late F.H. and Elizabeth Bunch Dawkins, was a native of Richmond County, Ga. He was raised in Lincoln County and was a 1964 graduate of Lincolnton High School. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Georgia. He then received a Master's Degree in Reading from Augusta College. Later, he received an Ed.S and Ed.D from the University of Georgia while employed as an academic tutor for the UGA Athletic Dept. Most recently, Dr. Dawkins retired from the Dalton High School where he had served as a special education teacher. He also taught at Dalton College. Dr. Dawkins took an active role in his church, St. Mark's Episcopal of Dalton and he was active in the Artistic Civic Theater, Dalton.
Survivors include two sisters, Lillie Mae Drinkard of Lincolnton and Linda Miller of Jackson, S.C.; two brothers, Daniel B. Dawkins and David H. Dawkins of Lincolnton; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Barry Hodges, Joe Hogan, Tom Hogan, Weems Pennington, Jr., Weems Pennington, III, Cary Pennington, Fred Scott, and Randy Smith.
