Chief Justice attends summer GACP training conference
As part of his continuing education and training in the administration of law enforcement, Lincolnton Police Chief Jim Justice recently attended the 41st Annual Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP) Summer Training Conference.
The conference was held at the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center Sunday, July 13, through Wednesday, July 16.
Included in the topics covered during the event were:
.. "GBI Crime Lab Update — Improving Justice in Georgia."
.. "Use of Force — Are Continuums Still Necessary?"
.. "Georgia Department of Natural Resources Disaster Response Plans."
.. "Immigration-Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Secure Communities Program."
.. "Drive Performance via Servant Chiefship."
.. "Ethics and Asset Forfeiture — Beyond the Traffic Stop."
.. "2008 Legal Update."
.. "Joint Task Force — Guantanamo."
This year's conference was one of the largest ever held. In fact, Chief Justice was among more than 425 heads of law enforcement agencies through the state attending the GACP 2008 Summer Training Conference.
In addition to the chiefs, a significant number of departmental command officials were on hand as well to receive training that will benefit their respective departments and communities.
During the conference, Dwayne Orrick, chief of the Cordele Police Department and GACP president, challenged the chiefs to "apply what was learned at the conference to enhance your professional development and strengthen the knowledge of your officers."
The Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police is responsible for the delivery of training to the chiefs of Georgia's police departments and law enforcement agencies.
